Answer to the Letters of Petilian, the Donatist.
Chapter 15.—16. Look at the states of Musti and Assura:
Chapter 10.—23. Petilianus said: Did the apostle persecute any one? or did Christ betray any one?
Chapter 71.—157. Petilianus said: To you the prophet says, ‘Peace, peace and where is there peace?’
Chapter 41.—97. Petilianus said: "And, again, he taught us that schisms should not arise, in the following terms: ‘Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?’"197 1 Cor. i. 12, 13.
98. Augustin answered: Remember all of you who read this, it was Petilianus who quoted these words from the apostle. For who could have believed that he would have brought forward words which tell so much for us against himself?
