27.1361 And immediately he says: Eat, my friends, and drink, and be drunk, brothers. See how the Savior commands the infants to eat; but to the greater ones he says, And drink; and to the perfect he said, And be drunk, brothers. Of course Paul, being perfect, and being intoxicated with this divine drunkenness, said: For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you. But do not think that he was beside himself from wine; for he himself commanded: Do not be drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but, Use a little wine for your stomach's sake, he writes to Timothy; and if he commands others, how much more himself? For he was drunk with a good and divine drunkenness from the Word. And may it be that we also may be numbered with him in the kingdom of heaven in Christ Jesus. Amen.
