of the commandments, let him be sober, diligent, patient, kind, a lover of orphans, a lover of the poor, hospitable, a lover of good, quiet, steadfast in faith and in mind and in word, abstaining from a woman, not neglecting the flock, not abominating anyone. Not to show partiality, reproving in all things. 8.2 Not to allow a mangy sheep in the flock, but first to cleanse it with repentance, and then to gather it into the fold. 8.3 To know how each one ought to be shepherded, what to command the widows, what the monks, what the laity, what the catechumens. 8.4 To command women not to speak at all in church, but in all things to be silent and to pray, and not to adorn themselves with gold or clothing, and that their faces not be seen, not to kiss the hands of men. 8.5 Let the catechumens pray by themselves or outside the veil. 8.6 And let all the people in fear and silence hear the word of the Lord. 8.7 And not only those who sin will pay the penalty, but also those who rejoice over those who sin. 8.8 Concerning the offerings, the priest ought to be vigilant; for if he should receive from a soldier who has shed blood, or who has committed extortion, or who has stolen, or a merchant, or a perjurer, or from a rich man who defrauds, or from a tax-collector who overcharges, or a usurer, or one who raises the price of grain, or from any sinner, such a priest, if he should receive from such persons, offers from them what is lame and blind to God. 8.9 But for you, the layman, it is not permitted to judge the priest, unless you see him as a transgressor, flee from him. 8.10 If you keep these things, O priest, you will obtain for yourself a good standing and great boldness in Christ Jesus our Lord, with whom to the Father with the Holy Spirit be glory for ages of ages, amen.

ἐντολῶν, ἤτω νηφάλιος, σπουδαῖος, ἀνεξίκακος, χρηστός, φιλόρφανος, φιλόπτωχος, φιλόξενος, φιλάγαθος, ἥσυχος, στερεὸς πίστει καὶ γνώμῃ καὶ λόγῳ, ἀπεχόμενος γυναικός, μὴ ἀμελῶν τοῦ ποιμνίου, μὴ βδελυσσόμενός τινα. Μὴ προσωποληπτεῖν, ἐλέγχοντα ἐπὶ πάντων. 8.2 Μὴ ἐᾶν ψωριᾶν πρόβατον ἐν τῇ ποίμνη, ἀλλὰ καθαίρειν πρῶτον μετὰ μετανοίας, καὶ τότε συνάγειν ἐν τῇ μάνδρᾳ. 8.3 Εἰδέναι ἕκαστον ὡς ποιμαίνειν δεῖ, τί δὲ ταῖς χήραις παραγγέλλειν, τί μοναχοῖς, τί λαϊκοῖς, τί κατηχουμένοις. 8.4 Γυναιξὶ δὲ παραγγέλλειν ἐν ἐκκλησίᾳ μὴ λαλεῖν ὅλως, ἀλλ' ἐν πᾶσι σιγᾶν καὶ εὔχεσθαι, καὶ μὴ λαμπρύνειν ἑαυτὰς ἐν χρυσῷ ἢ ἐσθῆτι, τὰ δὲ πρόσωπα αὐτῶν μὴ φαίνεσθαι, χεῖρας ἀνδρῶν μὴ καταφιλεῖν. 8.5 Κατηχούμενοι δὲ ἰδίᾳ εὐχέσθωσαν ἢ ἔξωθεν τοῦ βηλοῦ. 8.6 Ὁ δὲ πᾶς λαὸς ἐν φόβῳ καὶ σιωπῇ ἀκουέτω τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου. 8.7 Οὐ μόνον δὲ οἱ ἁμαρτάνοντες δίκην ἀποτίσουσιν, ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ χαίροντες ἐπὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτάνουσιν. 8.8 Περὶ δὲ τῶν προσφορῶν ὀφείλει νήφειν ὁ ἱερεύς· ἐὰν γὰρ λάβῃ παρὰ στρατευομένου ἐκχέαντος αἷμα, ἢ διασείσαντος, ἢ κλέψαντος, ἢ πραγματευτοῦ, ἢ ἐπιόρκου, ἢ παρὰ πλουσίου ἀποστερητοῦ, ἢ παρὰ τελώνου ἐπιπράττοντος, ἢ τοκογλύφου, ἢ τιμιουλκοῦ ἐπὶ σίτου, ἢ παρὰ παντὸς ἁμαρτωλοῦ, ὁ τοιοῦτος ἱερεὺς ἀπὸ τοιούτων ἐὰν λάβῃ, χωλὸν καὶ τυφλὸν προσφέρει ἐξ αὐτῶν τῷ θεῷ. 8.9 Σοὶ δὲ τῷ λαϊκῷ οὐκ ἔξεστι κρῖναι τὸν ἱερέα, εἰ μὴ ἐὰν ἴδῃς παραβάτην φεῦγε ἀπ' αὐτοῦ. 8.10 Ἐὰν ταῦτα φυλάξῃς, ὁ ἱερεύς, βαθμὸν ἀγαθὸν ἑαυτῷ περιποιῇ καὶ πολλὴν παρρησίαν τὴν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ κυρίῳ ἡμῶν, μεθ' οὗ τῷ πατρὶ σὺν ἁγίῳ πνεύματι ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων ἀμήν.
