he foretold concerning the end of the temple, that it will be by a western nation, and then the covering, he says, of the Debir will be torn into small pieces, and the capitals of the two pillars will be removed, and no one will know where they will be; and these will be carried away into the desert by an angel, where in the beginning the tent of witness was pitched, and to those at the end the Lord will be made known.

9. Zephaniah, son of Cushi, was from the field of Sabaratha, of the tribe of Simeon; and he prophesied concerning the city and concerning the end of the nations and the shame of the impious; and having died, he was buried in his field.

10. Haggai came as a young man from Babylon to Jerusalem and prophesied openly concerning the return of the people, and he saw in part the building of the temple. And having died, he was buried gloriously before the tomb of the priests.

11. Zechariah son of Barachiah came from the Chaldeans to Jerusalem, already advanced in age; and there to the people he prophesied many things 59, and gave portents for proof. He also told Jozadak that you will beget a son, and he will serve as priest in Jerusalem, and he blessed Salathiel for his son, and gave him the name Zerubbabel; and in the time of Cyrus he gave a portent for victory and foretold concerning his service, which he would perform in Jerusalem, and blessed him; and he prophesied concerning the end of the nations, and of Israel, and of the temple and the inactivity of prophets and priests. But Joash king of Judah killed him between the temple and the altar, as he was exhorting both him and the people to abstain from impiety and to return to God, and the priests, taking him, buried him with his father. And from then on many visionary portents occurred in the temple. And the priests were not able to see a vision of the angels of God, nor to give oracles from the Debir nor to answer among the people by the Urim, as before.

12. Malachi was born in Sopha after the return of the people, who, being young, had a very good life. And since all the people honored him as holy, they called him Malachi, which is angel. περὶ τῆς συντελείας τοῦ ναοῦ προεῖπεν, ὅτι ὑπὸ ἔθνους δυτικοῦ γενήσεται, καὶ τότε τὸ ἅπλωμα, φησί, τοῦ ∆αβὴρ εἰς μικρὰ διαῤῥαγήσεται, καὶ τὰ ἐπίκρανα τῶν δύο στύλων ἀφαιρεθήσεται, καὶ οὐδεὶς γνώσεται ποῦ ἔσονται· ταῦτα δὲ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἀπενεχθήσονται ὑπὸ ἀγγέλου, ὅπου ἐν ἀρχῇ ἐπάγη ἡ σκηνὴ τοῦ μαρτυρίου, καὶ τοῖς ἐπὶ τέλει γνωσθήσεται κύριος.

θʹ. Σοφονίας, υἱὸς Χουσῆ, ἦν ἐξ ἀγροῦ Σαβαραθᾶ, φυλῆς Συμεών· προεφήτευσε δὲ περὶ τῆς πόλεως καὶ περὶ τοῦ τέλους τῶν ἐθνῶν καὶ τῆς αἰσχύνης τῶν ἀσεβῶν· καὶ τελευτήσας ἐτάφη ἐν ἀγρῷ αὐτοῦ.

ιʹ. Ἀγγαῖος νέος ἦλθεν ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ καὶ φανερῶς περὶ τῆς ἐπιστροφῆς τοῦ λαοῦ προεφήτευσε, καὶ εἶδε ἐκ μέρους τὴν οἰκοδομὴν τοῦ ναοῦ. Καὶ θανὼν ἐτάφη ἐνώπιον τοῦ τάφου τῶν ἱερέων ἐνδόξως.

ιαʹ. Ζαχαρίας υἱὸς Βαραχίου ἦλθεν ἀπὸ Χαλδαίων εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, ἤδη προβεβηκώς· κἀκεῖ τῷ λαῷ πολλὰ προεφή 59 τευσε, καὶ τέρατα ἔδωκεν εἰς ἀπόδειξιν. Ὃς καὶ τῷ Ἰωσεδὲκ εἶπεν, ὅτι γεννήσεις υἱόν, καὶ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἱερατεύσει, καὶ τὸν Σαλαθιὴλ ἐπὶ υἱῷ ηὐλόγησε, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα Ζοροβάβελ ἐπέθηκε· καὶ ἐπὶ Κύρου τέρας ἔδωκεν εἰς νῖκος καὶ περὶ τῆς λειτουργίας αὐτοῦ προηγόρευσεν, ἣν ποιήσει ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτόν· καὶ περὶ τέλους ἐθνῶν, καὶ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ τοῦ ναοῦ καὶ ἀργίας προφητῶν καὶ ἱερέων προεφήτευσεν. Ἀπέκτεινε δὲ αὐτὸν Ἰωὰς βασιλεὺς Ἰούδαμεταξὺ τοῦ ναοῦ καὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου, παραινοῦντα αὐτῷ τε καὶ τῷ λαῷ ἀπέχεσθαι τῆς ἀσεβείας καὶ ἐπιστρέφειν πρὸς θεόν, καὶ λαβόντες αὐτὸν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἔθαψαν μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ. Καὶ ἀπὸ τότε ἐγίνοντο τέρατά τε ἐν ναῷ πολλὰ φαντασιώδη. Καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυον οἱ ἱερεῖς ἰδεῖν ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων θεοῦ, οὔτε δοῦναι χρησμοὺς ἐκ τοῦ ∆αβὴρ οὔτε διὰ τῶν δήλων ἀποκριθῆναι ἐν τῷ λαῷ ὡς τὸ πρίν.

ιβʹ. Μαλαχίας μετὰ τὴν ἐπιστροφὴν τοῦ λαοῦ τίκτεται ἐν Σοφᾷ, ὃς νέος ὢν βίον εἶχε καλὸν πάνυ. Καὶ ἐπειδὴ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐτίμα αὐτὸν ὡς ἅγιον, ἐκάλεσαν αὐτὸν Μαλαχίαν, ὅ ἐστιν ἄγγελος. Ἦν γὰρ καὶ τῷ εἴδει εὐπρεπὴς καὶ τῷ λαῷ πληρωτής. Ὅσα γὰρ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ἐν προφητείᾳ, αὐτῇ 60 τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀφθεὶς ἄγγελος κυρίου ἐβεβαίωσε. Καὶ ἔτι νέος ὢν ἐτελειώθη καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν ἀγρῷ αὐτοῦ.

ιγʹ. Ἡσαΐας υἱὸς Ἀμὼς ἦν ἀπὸ Ἱερουσαλήμ· ἀναιρεθεὶςδὲ ὑπὸ Μανασσῆ, πρισθεὶς εἰς δύο ἐτάφη ὑποκάτω δρυὸς Ῥωγήλ, πλησίον τῆς διαβάσεως τῶν ὑδάτων ὧν ἀπώλεσεν Ἐζεκίας χώσας αὐτά. Καὶ ὁ θεὸς τὸ σημεῖον τοῦ Σιλωὰμ διὰ τὸν προφήτην ἐποίησεν, ὅτι πρὸ τοῦ θανεῖν ὀλιγορήσας ηὔξατο πιεῖν ὕδωρ, καὶ εὐθέως ἀπεστάλη αὐτῷ ἐξ αὐτοῦ. Καὶ διὰ τοῦτο ἐπεκλήθη Σιλωάμ, ὅ ἐστιν ἀπεσταλμένος. Καὶ Ἐζεκίας ἐπὶ τῶν εὐχῶν τούτου ἐποίησε τοὺς λάκκους καὶ τὰς κολυμβήθρας. Μικρὸν γὰρ ἦν ὕδωρ ἐξεληλυθός, ὅτε ἦν ὁ λαὸς ἐν συγκλεισμῷ ἀλλοφύλων· καὶ ἵνα μὴ διαφθαρῇ ἡ πόλις ὡς μὴ ἔχουσα ὕδωρ, ἐποίησε τοῦτο. Καὶ ὅταν οὖν ἤρχοντο οἱ πολέμιοι ἀντλῆσαι, οὐκ ἤρχετο ὕδωρ· ὅταν δὲ Ἰουδαῖοι ἤρχοντο, ἤρχετο καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ. Ὅθεν ἕως τοῦ νῦν αἰφνίδιον ἐξέρχεται τὸ ὕδωρ, ἵνα δειχθῇ τὸ μυστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ. Καὶ ἐπειδὴ διὰ τοῦ Ἡσαΐου τοῦτο γέγονε, μνήμης χάριν καὶ ὁ λαὸς πλησίον αὐτὸν ἔθαψεν ἐνδόξως, ἵνα διὰ τῶν εὐχῶν αὐτοῦ ὡσαύτως ἔχωσιν τὴν ἀπόλαυσιν τοῦ ὕδατος, ὅτι χρησμὸς ἐδόθη αὐτοῖς περὶ τούτου. Ἔστιν δὲ ὁ τάφος ἐχόμενα τοῦ τάφου τῶν βασιλέων, ὄπισθεν τοῦ τάφου τῶν ἱερέων ἐπὶ τὸ μέρος τὸ πρὸς νότον. Σολομὼν 61 γὰρ ἐποίησε τοὺς τάφους τοῦ ∆αυὶδ διαγράψαντος κατὰ ἀνατολὰς τῆς Σιών, ἥτις ἔχει εἴσοδον ἀπὸ Γαβαώ, μήκοθεν τῆς πόλεως σταδίους κʹ καὶ ἐποίησε σκολιὰν σύνθεσιν ἀνυπονόητον, καὶ ἔστιν ἕως τοῦ νῦν τοῖς πολλοῖς ἀγνοουμένη. Ἐκεῖ εἶχεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ χρυσίον τὸ ἐξ Αἰθιοπίας καὶ τὰ ἀρώματα. Καὶ ἐπειδὴ Ἐζεκίας ἔδειξε τοῖς ἔθνεσι τὸ μυστήριον ∆αυὶδ καὶ Σολομῶντος, καὶ ἐμίανεν ὀστᾶ
