of his fathers, because of this God cursed his seed to slavery to his enemies, and God made him fruitless from that day.

14. Jeremiah was from Anathoth and in Tahpanhes of Egypt, having been stoned by the people, he dies. He lies near the house of Pharaoh, because the Egyptians glorified him, having received benefits through him; for he prayed, and the asps left them and the beasts of the waters, which the Egyptians call Ephoth, but the Greeks crocodiles, which were putting them to death, and when the prophet prayed, the race of asps was driven out from that land and likewise the ambush of the beasts from the river. And as many as are faithful to God, until now they pray in the place where he lies, and taking the dust of the place they heal the bites of asps, and they drive away the beasts of the water. And we heard from the children of Antigonus and Ptolemy, some 62 old men, that Alexander the Macedonian, coming to the tomb of the prophet, and recognizing the mysteries concerning him, moved his remains to Alexandria, wrapping them in glory; and the race of asps was driven out from the land, and likewise the beasts from the river. This prophet gave a sign to the priests of Egypt, that their idols must be shaken and their man-made objects fall, when a virgin should come into Egypt bearing a god-like infant. Wherefore even to this day they honor a virgin in childbirth and placing an infant in a manger, they worship. And to king Ptolemy, when he asked the reason, they said: It is a mystery handed down from our fathers, delivered to our fathers by a holy prophet, and we await the fulfillment of our mystery. And this one, before the capture of the temple, seized the ark of the law and the things in it, and caused them to be swallowed up in a rock, saying to those present: The Lord has departed from Zion into heaven, and will come again in power. And let this be a sign to you of his coming, when all the nations will worship a piece of wood. And this ark no one brings forth except Aaron; and the tablets in it no priest or prophet unrolls except Moses the chosen of God. And in the resurrection, first the ark of God will be raised and will come out of the rock, and will be placed on Mount Sinai, and then all the saints will be gathered there, awaiting Christ. And on the rock he sealed 63 with his finger the name of God, and the impression became like an engraving of iron, and a cloud covered the name, and no one knows the place until the end. And the rock is in the desert where the ark first was, between the two mountains, where Moses and Aaron lie; and at night a cloud becomes like fire according to the ancient type, because the glory of God shall not cease from his law. And God gave grace to Jeremiah, that he himself should bring about the end of his mystery, so that he might become a sharer with Moses.

15. Ezekiel the son of Buzi was in Sarira, of the priests; and the leader of Israel killed him in the land of the Chaldeans during the captivity, being rebuked by him for the worship of idols; they buried him there in the field of Maour, in the tomb of Shem and Arphaxad, who prophesied many things to those in Judea. And the tomb is a double cave, because Abraham also in Hebron made the tomb of Sarah in its likeness. It is called double, because it is winding and has a hidden upper chamber on the same level. And he gave a sign to the people to watch the river Chobar, and when it should fail, to expect the sickle of desolation to the end of the earth, and when it should flood, the return to Jerusalem. For the holy man dwelt there, and many gathered to him, so that the Chaldeans feared lest they should revolt. Wherefore he also came upon them for their destruction; and he made the water stand still, that they might escape to the other side; and those 64 of the enemies who dared to pursue were drowned. This one through prayer spontaneously provided for them an abundant supply of fish, and to many
