DISCOURSE ON JOHN

82 Christ subjects and rather ratifies the will of the Father above His own, in various places; not that there was a will in Him needing to be abolished, neither divine nor indeed that of His humanity (for He would have thus worked against nature and the things of nature); but speaking to the Jews who thought Him to be a rival God to the Father, He said these things according to the economy, saying that: I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me.

ΛΟΓΟΣ ΚΑΤΑ ΙΩΑΝΝΗΝ

82 Ὑποτάττει καὶ μᾶλλον κυροῖ ὑπὲρ τὸ ἑαυτοῦ ὁ Χριστὸς τὸ τοῦ Πατρὸς θέλημα, ἐν διαφόροις τόποις· οὐχ ὅτι θέλημα ἦν ἐν αὐτῷ δεόμενον καταλύσεως οὔτε θεϊκὸν οὔτε μὴν τὸ τῆς αὐτοῦ ἀνθρωπήσεως (καθάπερ ἂν γὰρ τὴν φύσιν καὶ τὰ τῆς φύσεως ἀπειργάσατο)· ἀλλὰ πρὸς Ἰουδαίους λαλῶν τοὺς νομίζοντας αὐτὸν ἀντίθεον τοῦ Πατρὸς εἶναι, οἰκονομικῶς ταῦτα ἔφασκε λέγων ὅτι· οὐ ζητῶ τὸ θέλημα τὸ ἐμὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ πέμψαντός με Πατρός.
