Fragmenta in epistulam ad Titum 461Tit 1,12 An oracle of Epimenides the Cretan prophet. And Callimachus also used this saying in the hymn to Zeus spoken by him. Tit 1,15 Why then did the law given to the Jews have an observance of unclean things? We say: not because they were unclean did God thus legislate, but by this cutting short the great luxury and indifference of the Jews. For the clean and unclean properly comes from the mind of those who partake, since by nature all things are clean to those who are not scrupulous; but to such people all things are unclean; for only sin is unclean. tit 2,3 He means the deaconesses, and by 'demeanor' he means their garments. Tit 3,1011 And yet elsewhere he says: 'perhaps God may grant them repentance.' How then does he command here to reject them? There he speaks about those who have hope of correction, but here about those who are incurably sick.

Tit 1,15 Τί δήποτε οὖν ὁ Ἰουδαίοις δοθεὶς νόμος εἶχεν ἀκαθάρτων παρατήρησιν; φαμέν· οὐκ ἐπειδὴ ἀκάθαρτα ἦν, οὕτως ἐνομοθέτησεν ὁ θεός, ἀλλὰ ταύτῃ τὴν πολλὴν τρυφὴν καὶ ἀδιαφορίαν τῶν Ἰουδαίων ὑποτεμνόμενος. τὸ γὰρ καθαρὸν καὶ ἀκάθαρτον κυρίως ἀπὸ τῆς τῶν λαμβανόντων διανοίας γίνεται, ἐπεὶ κατὰ φύσιν πάντα καθαρὰ τοῖς μὴ ἀκριβολογουμένοις· τοῖς δὲ τοιούτοις πάντα ἀκάθαρτα· ἀκάθαρτος γὰρ μόνη ἡ ἁμαρτία. tit 2,3 Τὰς διακόνους λέγει, κατάστημα δὲ τὰ περιβόλαια λέγει.
