from ministering to me; you have forgotten the law of your God, and I will forget your children.” And this sort of thing is also seen in certain sensible things; for though the earth is motionless on its own foundation, those who depart from it by ship, as they move away from it, have the sensation that it is moving away. 1.12 He who says these things, representing the greatness of goodness, speaks as one who, as almighty, will do them; for it is characteristic of one who is merciful and possesses extreme goodness to call to conversion and a drawing near those who distance themselves from God and from virtue, so that they may have eternal salvation by drawing near to him and having him near, according to what is written: “Draw near to the Lord, and he will draw near to you.” 1.13 But the so-called departures and nearnesses happen by relation and disposition, but not by place. 1.14 Returning to me, and I to you. Do not become like those who bore you according to wickedness, whom the prophets accused before the present time, so that you might not suffer the same things as they did. And what did they accuse them of, but to turn from evil practices and wicked ways? But by not hearing nor paying attention, they perished along with the false prophets who deceived them, so that there are no longer either the impostors or those who were carried away by their sorcery. Since, therefore, neither the prophets nor the deceived exist, you to whom I bring the word of God, walk in the divine ways and do not pursue the wicked ones. 1.15 For divine and beneficial practices are announced to you in our Spirit—this is the Holy one—by my servants the prophets who have it; for these, having the Spirit of truth and being prepared by it to speak, benefit those who pay attention to them, of whom your accused fathers had experience; since they did not hear nor pay attention to them, they answered through their very deeds; as the Lord has determined to do, so it will happen to them, although God has roused them to repentance, so that they might not suffer the things that were threatened. 1.16Zech. I, 7: On the twenty-fourth day of the twelfth month, —this is the month of Shebat— in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying. 1.17 All things that are done and given by God have order and harmony according to proportion “who does great and unsearchable things,” “who arranges all things by measure and number.” Indeed, therefore, the present word of the prophet, being according to scientific theory, is visible rather than audible, whence, having much certainty according to number, it is set on the twenty-fourth day of the twelfth month according to the Hebrews. 1.18 The number 24 is potentially 36; for the parts of 24 make this up as follows: a half, 12; a third, 8; a fourth, 6; a sixth, 4; an eighth, 3; a twelfth, 2; a twenty-fourth, 1. The number produced from 24 by the composition of its parts is a square; for it is six times six. And no shape is as stable as the square. 1.19 But the present one has this distinction, that each of its sides is composed of a perfect number, six. In the same way as 24, 12 also, when composed from its parts, produces a square; a half, six; a third, four; a fourth, three; a sixth, two; a twelfth, one; together these parts when composed complete the number sixteen, which is also itself a square: four times four. And this has a distinction according to its own sides; for the tetrad is potentially a decad, thus: 1, 2, 3, 4. 1.20Zech. I, 8 : I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he was standing between the two shady mountains, and behind him were red, and dappled, and speckled, and white horses. 1.21 When the word of the Lord came to Zechariah by night, a man appeared to him riding a red horse, standing between the two shady mountains. The man riding the red horse is the incarnate Savior. And the red horse is the body that he wears; for it is red
