to a daily death, given over to Isaurian swords, the enduring and steadfast nature of your disposition and your boldness, and to revel thus in your abundant and genuine love, comforts and consoles us in no ordinary way. This is a wall for us, this is security, this is a calm harbor, this is a treasure of countless good things, this is gladness, and the source of much delight. And if we should be carried off again to a place more desolate than this, we will depart having this as no small consolation for our sufferings.

θανάτῳ καθημερινῷ, μαχαίραις Ἰσαυρικαῖς ἐκδεδομένους, οὐχ ὡς ἔτυχε παρακαλεῖ καὶ παραμυθεῖται τὸ διαρκὲς καὶ μόνιμον ὑμῶν τῆς διαθέσεως καὶ τῆς παῤῥησίας, καὶ τὸ δαψιλεῖ καὶ γνησίᾳ οὕτως ἐντρυφᾷν ὑμῶν τῇ ἀγάπῃ. Τοῦτο ἡμῖν τεῖχος, τοῦτο ἀσφάλεια, τοῦτο λιμὴν ἀκύμαντος, τοῦτο θησαυρὸς μυρίων ἀγαθῶν, τοῦτο εὐφροσύνη, καὶ πολλῆς ἡδονῆς ὑπόθεσις. Κἂν εἰς ἐρημότερον τούτου πάλιν ἀπενεχθῶμεν χωρίον, οὐ μικρὰν ταύτην ἔχοντες παράκλησιν τῶν παθημάτων ἡμῶν ἄπιμεν.
