of God; Paul, the mouth of Christ, the lyre of the Spirit, the three-cubit man, and touching the heavens; he who is circumscribed in place, and circumscribes the entire world for the Master; he who from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum has fulfilled the Gospel of Christ; the swift runner, the eagle flying up to heaven, he who is filled with divine grace, he who is witnessed by the Lord to bear His name before all the world, he who passed through the third heaven, and entered into paradise, and ascended to the Master's and incomprehensible throne, and heard the ineffable mysteries, which it is not lawful for a man to speak.

And what shall we say of Peter? the sweet spectacle of the Church, the radiance of the world, the most pure dove, the leader of the apostles, the fervent apostle? he who is fervent in the Spirit, the angel and man, he who is full of grace, the firm rock of faith, the aged wisdom of the Church, the blessed one who was called son of a dove for his purity from the Master's mouth, he who received the keys of the kingdom of heaven from the Lord Himself. You have despoiled the ranks of the angels. And why do I say much? The Lord Himself praises you, saying: You are the light of the world; wealthier than kings, more powerful than the rich, stronger than soldiers, wiser than the wise and philosophers, more eloquent than orators, Those having nothing, and yet possessing all things. You are the patience of the martyrs, the orthodoxy of the patriarchs, the asceticism of the monks, the crowners of virgins, the peacemakers in marriage, the bridles of the rapacious rich, the correctors of the licentious, the shelter of kings, the walls of Christians, the adversaries of the barbarians, those who have muzzled the heretics, those who put to death the irrational passions of the body, those who have driven out the legions of demons, those who have torn down the altars of the Greeks, those who have inherited the things above and the things below; having received the keys of the things above, and having authority over the things below to loose and bind sins. Oh, the wonder of the layman! oh, the wisdom of the unlettered! Peter, who in his shadow strengthened paralytics, and loosed death; Paul, who in his garments cast out diseases, and put demons to flight; those who have the mother of the Lord in their midst, and are greater than the spirit of a righteous one; Paul the ceaseless swallow of the Church; Peter who continuously to the world, like a nightingale, unceasingly sings; the pillars of the Church, the great lights of the world, who are greater than one another, and better than all of creation together. Hail, Peter, the rock of faith; hail, Paul, the boast of the Church; hail, Peter, the foundation of orthodoxy; hail, Paul, the care of the Churches; hail, Peter, the adornment of the world; hail Paul, the entrance of paradise; 59.494 hail, Peter, the guide to the kingdom of heaven; hail, Paul, a fair haven for the storm-tossed; hail, Peter, who was deemed worthy of many praises by the Lord; hail, Paul, who is the governor of many gifts; hail, Peter, who is fervent and burning with the Holy Spirit; hail Paul, the vigorous runner; who have illuminated the whole world with the holy proclamation, who have endured countless terrible things for the Church, being shut up in prisons, being abhorred by Jews, being dragged by barbarians, being tortured by kings, who were not allowed to breathe easily, and did not cease from teaching; who were not able to move a limb of the body, because of the weight of their chains, and loosed by letters the whole world bound by sin.

You have routed the phalanxes of the demons; through you the grace of the Holy Spirit has been spread over the world; the mist of error you
