And when they rolled it away with grumbling— for the death-bringing, unpleasant stench irritated them—, and when those present had rolled away the stone, immediately the Lord shouted, saying: Lazarus, come forth. The Master is the one calling, no one contradicts. Lazarus, come forth; assure your sister Martha that I command and do not supplicate. Lazarus, come forth. Before I come down, come out; in you is the pledge, but in me is the fulfillment. Lazarus, come forth. And you, O friend, hearing, Lazarus, come forth, do not think that the Lord uttered many cries. He spoke once and raised the one whom he had formed; for he neither wept like Elijah nor was at a loss like Elisha. With a single-worded voice he awakened the one sleeping near him, saying: Lazarus, come forth. One is the word and various are the miracles. The Lord only called out: Lazarus, come forth, and immediately the flesh was filled out, the hairs were replanted, the joints were bound together, the veins were refilled with pure blood. Hades below, being beaten, sent Lazarus forth. The soul of Lazarus, being held back and yet being summoned by the holy angels, was transfused from its own into its own. And the most glorious thing of all was that though his feet and face were bound on all sides with grave-clothes, he walked unhindered. Therefore the Lord also commanded the crowds present more forcefully, saying: Unbind him and let him go. See the Lord's careful management and how He wisely orders all things. For the assurance of those present He said: Unbind him and let him go; just as you rolled away the stone and pointed out the tomb and partook of the smell, also unbind the grave-clothes; keeping the one as a blessing, and guarding the other as witnesses. If the chief priests and the Pharisees should disbelieve that Lazarus was raised, show them the grave-clothes; display the burial cloths as the paralytic did his pallet. But let us, bearing the palm branches, say: Hosanna in the highest; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. To Him be the glory and the power with the all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
