to the sheep following, which it was fitting for him to say inasmuch as he is the source of life. 83
being a fullness of divinity in us. 13 Jο 3, 19 The light came of itself, with no one having labored to find it. 14 Jο 3, 19 Those who loved the darkness more than the light are without excuse; for they do not believe in Christ not through ignorance, but because they wish to do evil things, which the teaching of Christ does not accept. Therefore, when we hear that "they could not believe," let us not think of a power of nature or the dominion of another, but of the self-ruling reason that has enslaved itself to indecent passions and does not wish to depart from the most wicked habit; for these indeed recognize the light, but do not come to it, so that their hypocrisy might not be exposed, they who say they know God, but deny him by their works. 15 Jο 3,
32-33 Since, therefore, both the one who believes and the one who disbelieves utters his words, it is in him that he believes and disbelieves. And *has set his seal* instead of *has shown*.
17 Jο 4, 13-16 This perceptible water, he says, will cure thirst for a short time, but the invisible water, just as it frees from thirst, no longer leaves men in need of life; for it springs up incorruptibility for them. And this, that he is promising the Holy Spirit as a gift, is clear from what follows. Therefore, what is said contains a comparison of spiritual water to bodily water, but also of the gift of the Spirit to the teaching of the Law; for the one was through the learning of letters, which man always needs on account of forgetfulness, but the Spirit of wisdom, which, being continuously present, bestows its provision; hearing these things, the Samaritan woman remained in a bodily way of thinking and, considering small things great, she remained unaware of the great things. But the Lord made this preface to the woman up to this point, but wishing to win over the nation of the Samaritans, he adds the calling of her husband to his word to her. In this is shown that a man's nature is more excellent for the full knowledge of the word and somehow more suited than the woman's, who did not grasp the Lord's spiritual teachings. 18 Jο 4,33 They make clear that he accepted the services of those who offered, although he was able to feed and not be fed; for to feed Christ is a very great benefaction, which he did not begrudge to those who wished it. Wherefore he also ordained the same for his disciples.
19 Jο 5,5 The thirty-eighth year of the paralytic lying there signifies
a time of punishment already being completed, because for forty years the people paid the penalty in the desert, and the flood lasted for forty days, and the law punished sinners with forty stripes. Therefore the Lord, cutting short the fullness of the punishment, heals the sick man in the thirty-eighth year, just as he also cut short the legal punishments through grace, near the fulfillment of the cosmic time. 22 Jο 5,44 Then, because he says you seek glory from one another and you do not seek the glory from God, you cannot come to me. And he says this, rebuking the hidden things of their minds and stating the cause of their unbelief: for the rulers, pursuing renown from the peoples, and the peoples, loving the honor from the rulers, you fall away from faith in me, the former, so that they might not be diminished in the glory among you, and you, so that you might not lose the honor from them.

one region did he remain settled. 24 Jο 6,10-11 To the disciples the sign that had occurred
