15. But Luke the evangelist, a physician by trade, he himself wrote the Gospel according to Luke, at the behest of Paul the apostle. He preached in Greece and in Rome and in Italy, and he also wrote the Acts of the Apostles at the behest of Paul the apostle, for he 117 journeyed with the apostles, especially with Saint Paul, whom the blessed Paul also mentions, writing in his epistles: "Luke the physician greets you in the Lord," Bishop of Thebes, he died and was buried there.

For he, being an Antiochene by birth, and a physician by science, journeyed with the apostles and especially with Paul, and knowing accurately, he writes; and he narrates: how the Lord was taken up, being received by angels, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that happened at Pentecost upon both the apostles and all those present at the time, and the appointment of Matthias in place of Judas the betrayer, and the appointment of the seven deacons, and the election of Paul and all that he suffered, and all the miracles the apostles performed through prayer and faith in Christ himself.

ιεʹ. Λουκᾶς δὲ ὁ εὐαγγελιστής, ἰατρὸς μὲν τὴν τέχνην, αὐτὸς δὲ συνέγραψε τὸ κατὰ Λουκᾶν εὐαγγέλιον, κατ' ἐπιτροπὴν Παύλου τοῦ ἀποστόλου. Ἐκηρύχθη δὲ ἐν Ἑλλάδι καὶ ἐν Ῥώμῃ καὶ ἐν Ἰταλίᾳ, ἔγραψε δὲ καὶ τὰς πράξεις τῶν ἀποστόλων κατ' ἐπιτροπὴν Παύλου τοῦ ἀποστόλου, συναπεδήμει 117 γὰρ τοῖς ἀποστόλοις, μάλιστα τῷ ἁγίῳ Παύλῳ, ὃς καὶ μνημονεύων ὁ μακάριος Παῦλος ἐν ἐπιστολαῖς γράφει· ἀσπάζεται ὑμᾶς Λουκᾶς ὁ ἰατρὸς ἐν κυρίῳ, ἐπίσκοπος Θηβῶν ἐκεῖ ἀπέθανεν καὶ ἐτάφη.

Λουκᾶς ὁ εὐαγγελιστὴς Ἀντιοχεὺς μὲν τὸ γένος ἦν, ἰατρὸς δὲ τὴν τέχνην, συνεγράψατο δὲ τὸ μὲν εὐαγγέλιον κατ' ἐπιτροπὴν Πέτρου τοῦ ἀποστόλου, τὰς δὲ πράξεις τῶν ἀποστόλων κατ' ἐπιτροπὴν Παύλου τοῦ ἀποστόλου· συναπεδήμησε γὰρ τοῖς ἀποστόλοις καὶ μάλιστα τῷ Παύλῳ, οὗ καὶ μνημονεύσας ὁ Παῦλος ἔγραψεν ἐν ἐπιστολῇ· ἀσπάζεται ὑμᾶς Λουκᾶς ὁ ἰατρὸς ὁ ἀγαπητὸς ἐν κυρίῳ. Ἀπέθανε δὲ ἐν Ἐφέσῳ καὶ ἐτάφη ἐκεῖ, μετετέθη δὲ ὕστερον ἐν Κωνσταντινουπόλει μετὰ καὶ Ἀνδρέου καὶ Τιμοθέου τῶν ἀποστόλων· κατὰ τοὺς καιροὺς Κωνσταντίου τοῦ βασιλέως υἱοῦ Κωνσταντίνου τοῦ μεγάλου. Ἔστιν ὁ διηγούμενος τὰς πράξεις τῶν ἀποστόλων Λουκᾶς ὁ εὐαγγελιστής. Ἀντιοχεὺς γὰρ οὗτος ὑπάρχων τὸ γένος, ἰατρὸς δὲ τὴν ἐπιστήμην, συναπεδήμει τοῖς ἀποστόλοις καὶ μάλιστα τῷ Παύλῳ, καὶ εἰδὼς ἀκριβῶς γράφει· διηγεῖται δέ· ὡς ἀγγέλων ὑπολαβόντων ἀνελήφθη ὁ κύριος καὶ τὴν τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος ἔκχυσιν γενομένην ἐν τῇ πεντεκοστῇ ἐπί τε τοῖς ἀποστόλοις καὶ πάντας τοὺς τότε παρόντας, τήν τε κατάστασιν τοῦ Ματθία ἀντὶ Ἰούδα τοῦ προδότου καὶ τὴν κατάστασιν τῶν ἑπτὰ διακόνων καὶ τὴν ἐκλογὴν τοῦ Παύλου καὶ ὅσα ἔπαθεν, καὶ ὅσα οἱ ἀπόστολοι διὰ προσευχῆς καὶ τῆς εἰς αὐτὸν τὸν Χριστὸν πίστεως ἐθαυματούργησαν.
