So they come Judae nepotes proxime ante memorati and they lead every church as martyrs, and from the family of the Lord. And when there was a deep peace in every church, they remained until Trajan Caesar. until the aforementioned Symeon son of Clopas, the uncle of the Lord, being falsely accused by the heresies, was likewise himself accused for the same reason before Atticus the consular. And being tortured for many days, he bore 215 witness; so that all marveled, even the consular, how being one hundred and twenty years old, he endured; and he was ordered to be crucified. Concerning these things, the same man Hegesippus, narrating the things concerning those mentioned, adds that until those times the church remained a pure and uncorrupted virgin, those who attempted to corrupt the sound rule of the saving proclamation, if any such existed, still lurking somewhere in obscure darkness.
Attulit haec Eusebius cap. 32. ejusd. lib. Ex incerto libro ejusdem
Operis. And after James the Just had borne witness as did also the Lord for the same
reason, again Symeon son of Clopas, his uncle, is appointed bishop; whom all put forward as being the Lord's cousin, a second one. For this reason they called the church a virgin; for it had not yet been corrupted by vain teachings. But Thebuthis, because he was not made bishop, began to corrupt it. He himself was also from the seven heresies among the people; from whom 216 Simon, whence the Simonians; and Cleobius, whence the Cleobians; and Dositheus, whence the Dositheans; and Gorthaeus, whence the Gortheonians; and Masbotheus, whence the Masbothaeans; from these the Menandrianists, and the Marcionists, for. Μαρκανισταὶ, vid. notam and the Carpocratians, and the Valentinians, and the Basilidians, and the Saturnilians; each individually and differently introduced their own opinion. from these came false Christs, false prophets, false apostles; who divided the unity of the church with corrupting words against God and against his Christ.

Eusebius quoque lib. iii. Hist. c. 16. And that indeed during the time of the aforementioned sc. Clement the sedition of the Corinthians had been stirred, Hegesippus is a credible witness. 217 Ex incerto libro ejusdem Operis. And the church of the Corinthians remained in the right doctrine, until Primus was bishop in Corinth; with whom I associated when sailing to Rome, and I spent a considerable number of days with the Corinthians; in which we were refreshed together in the right doctrine. And when I was in Rome, I made a list of succession down to Anicetus, whose deacon was Eleutherus. And from Anicetus, Soter succeeded, after whom Eleutherus. And in every succession and in every city it is so, as the law and the prophets and the Lord proclaim. The aec affert Eusebius lib. iv. Hist. cap. 22.Ex incerto libro ejusdem Operis. In these matters Hegesippus was well-known, whose many sayings we have already used before; as quoting from his tradition some of the things concerning the apostles. In five books, therefore, this man, the unerring tradition of the
