to consider that we have received a deposit from God, and that, having guarded with prayer the profession inviolate, we might present it at the fearful judgment seat of Christ, so that the sentence might not overtake us as ungrateful, according to the example of Ananias. Therefore, here there is need of much security, not to stumble in anything, nor to steal away from the promise, but let us be eager to render the promise with exactness. Let us not suppose Christianity to be only a matter of outward form, nor, delighting in this, let us remain therein, but having remained akin to the confirmation of truth and righteousness through works, let us obtain from Christ the honors that follow righteousness, to whom be the glory forever. Amen.

λογίζεσθαι, ὅτι παρακαταθήκην παρὰ Θεοῦ ἐλάβομεν, καὶ ἵνα μετὰ προσευχῆς φυλάξαντες ἀνόσφιστον τὸ ἐπάγγελμα παραστήσωμεν τῷ φοβερῷ βήματι Χριστοῦ, ἵνα μὴ ὡς ἀγνώμονας ἡμᾶς ἡ ἀπόφασις καταλάβῃ, κατὰ τὸ παράδειγμα Ἀνανίου. Οὐκοῦν ἐνταῦθα πολλῆς ἀσφαλείας χρεία, μὴ ἔν τινι πταῖσαι, μηδὲ ὑφείλασθαι τῆς ἐπαγγελίας, ἀλλὰ μετὰ ἀκριβείας ἀποδοῦναι τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν σπουδάσωμεν. Μὴ ἕως τοῦ σχήματος εἶναι νομίσωμεν τὸν Χριστιανισμὸν, μηδὲ τούτῳ τερπόμενοι ἐναπομείνωμεν, ἀλλὰ τῇ διὰ τῶν ἔργων βεβαιώσει ἀληθείας καὶ δικαιοσύνης οἰκεῖοι διαμείναντες, τῶν ἑπομένων τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ τιμῶν τευξώμεθα παρὰ Χριστοῦ, ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας.
