having been born of the adulterous wife of Uriah, is included in the genealogy. But since Melchizedek was a type of the Lord, and bore an image of Christ, just as Jonah also, for this reason Scripture omitted his father, so that in him, as in an image, we might behold as in a mirror the truly fatherless and ungenealogied Christ. But the Melchizedekites also object to us with this, saying: What then is it that the Father says to him: You are a priest forever according to the 56.261 order of Melchizedek? To whom we say, that this Melchizedek became a righteous man, and truly bore an image of Christ. Moved, therefore, by a prophetic spirit, understanding the offering that was about to be brought on behalf of the nations, he honored God with bread and wine, imitating the Christ who was to come. Since, therefore, the synagogue of the Jews, in the order of Aaron, offered sacrifice to God, not bread and wine, but calves and lambs, and glorified God with sacrifices through blood, God to 56.262 Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was about to be born of the virgin Mary, cries out and says: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek; not according to that of Aaron, who ministered with calves and lambs; but, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek, offering continually with bread and wine the offering of those who bring it. Through whom to the Father be the glory with the all-holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

τῆς τοῦ Οὐρίου γεννηθεὶς γυναικὸς μοιχαλίδος γενεαλογεῖται. Ἀλλ' ἐπειδὴ ὁ Μελχισεδὲκ τύπος ἦν τοῦ Κυρίου, καὶ εἰκόνα ἔφερε τοῦ Χριστοῦ, καθὼς καὶ Ἰωνᾶς, διὰ τοῦτο ἡ Γραφὴ παρέλιπεν αὐτοῦ τὸν πατέρα, ἵνα ἐν ἐκείνῳ, καθάπερ ἐν εἰκόνι τὸν ἀληθῶς ἀπάτορα καὶ ἀγενεαλόγητον Χριστὸν ἐνοπτρισώμεθα. Ἀντιλέγουσι δὲ καὶ τοῦτο ἡμῖν οἱ Μελχισεδεκιταὶ λέγοντες· Τί οὖν ἐστιν ὃ λέγει πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ Πατήρ· Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν 56.261 τάξιν Μελχισεδέκ; Πρὸς οὓς λέγομεν, ὅτι οὗτος ὁ Μελχισεδὲκ ἀνὴρ δίκαιος γέγονε, καὶ ἀληθῶς εἰκόνα ἔφερε τοῦ Χριστοῦ. Προφητικῷ τοίνυν πνεύματι κινούμενος, τὴν μέλλουσαν προσφορὰν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἐθνῶν προσκομίζεσθαι νοήσας, ἄρτῳ καὶ οἴνῳ τὸν Θεὸν ἐγέραιρε, μιμούμενος τὸν μέλλοντα Χριστόν. Ἐπειδὴ οὖν ἡ Ἰουδαίων συναγωγὴ ἐν τάξει τοῦ Ἀαρὼν θυσίαν προσέφερε τῷ Θεῷ, οὐκ ἄρτον καὶ οἶνον, ἀλλὰ μόσχους καὶ ἀμνοὺς, καὶ θυσίαις δι' αἵματος ἐδόξαζε τὸν Θεὸν, ὁ Θεὸς πρὸς 56.262 τὸν μέλλοντα γεννᾶσθαι ἐκ τῆς παρθένου Μαρίας Ἰησοῦν τὸν Χριστὸν, τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ, βοᾷ καὶ λέγει· Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισεδέκ· οὐ κατὰ τὴν Ἀαρὼν, τοῦ ἐν μόσχοις καὶ ἄρνασι λατρεύοντος· ἀλλὰ, Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισεδὲκ, ἄρτῳ καὶ οἴνῳ τὴν τῶν προσκομιζόντων προσφορὰν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς προσάγων. ∆ι' οὗ τῷ Πατρὶ ἡ δόξα σὺν τῷ παναγίῳ Πνεύματι, νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ, καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
