Synopsis of Genesis. The events concerning the creation of the world, and the formation of man. Cain kills his brother because he was more highly favored, and pays the penalty; and after this he begets children. And Eve also bears Seth. A catalog of those from Adam, and of those from Seth, until Noah, and an accusation against men on account of improper intermarriages and other lawless acts; Here he calls "sons of God" those who trace their lineage from Seth; for it has been said: *I have said, You are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High*. And "daughters of men," those from Cain. God foretells to Noah the future destruction of men by the flood, and advises him to make the ark, three hundred cubits in length, fifty cubits in breadth, thirty cubits in height. And when he entered the ark, the flood came for forty days and forty nights. And the water subsided after one hundred and fifty days. And the tops of the mountains were seen on the first day of the tenth month. And after forty days he sent forth the raven, and it did not return; and after seven days he sent forth the dove, and it returned carrying an olive branch. Noah is commanded by God to come out of the ark; and coming out he sacrificed to God, and was blessed with his sons. And he received a promise from God, that such a destruction of men by a flood would never again happen. And after this he blesses Shem and Japheth, but curses Canaan, because his father Ham spoke of his father's nakedness. And the curse comes upon the Gibeonites; or rather it was a pretext of a curse, but the truth was a prophecy. Those from Noah until Peleg, who received this name from the division of the earth in his time. For then they built the tower, whence the place was also called Babylon, which is Confusion, because there their languages were confused. But the story goes that Eber, the father of Peleg, did not agree with the others in the building of the tower, and for this reason his speech was not changed, but he remained having his dialect intact, and from him it received its name. Ὤφθησαν δὲ αἱ κορυφαὶ τῶν ὀρέων πρώτῃ τοῦ δεκάτου μηνός. Τότε γὰρ τὸν πύργον ᾠκοδόμησαν, ὅθεν καὶ ὁ τόπος Βαβυλὼν προσηγορεύθη, ὅ ἐστι Σύγχυσις, ἐπειδὴ ἐκεῖ συνεχύθησαν αὐτῶν αἱ γλῶσσαι. Τὸν δὲ πατέρα τοῦ Φαλὲκ τὸν Ἕβερ λόγος ἔχει μὴ ὁμονοῆσαι τοῖς λοιποῖς εἰς τὴν τοῦ πύργου οἰκοδομὴν, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο αὐτῷ τὴν λαλιὰν μὴ ἀμειφθῆναι, ἀλλὰ μεῖναι αὐτὸν ἀκέραιον ἔχοντα τὴν διάλεκτον, καὶ ἀπ' αὐτοῦ τὴν ἐπωνυμίαν αὐτὴν λαβεῖν. Ἕβερ γὰρ ἐκείνου καλουμένου, Ἑβραῒς αὕτη κέκληται, ὃ καὶ σημεῖόν ἐστι μέγιστον τοῦ πασῶν τῶν λαλιῶν πρεσβυτέραν εἶναι τὴν Ἑβραΐδα· πρὶν γὰρ συγχυθῆναι τὰς γλώσσας, ταύτῃ πάντες ἐκέχρηντο. Ἔστι δὲ ὁ Ἕβερ οὗτος πρόγονος Ἀβραάμ. Γενεαλογοῦνται δὲ ἀπὸ τοῦ Σὴθ ἕως τοῦ Ἀβραάμ. Μαχεσθέντων τῶν ποιμένων τοῦ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ τοῦ Λὼτ πρὸς ἀλλήλους, διείλοντο τὰς οἰκήσεις. Καὶ ὁ μὲν Λὼτ ἔλαβε τὴν Σοδομηνῶν, ὁ δὲ Ἀβραὰμ πρὸς τῇ δρυῒ τῇ Μαμβρὶ κατῴκησεν, ἐπαγγελίας τε ἔλαβε πάλιν παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ ὅτι εἰς πλῆθος ἐπιδώσει αὐτοῦ τὸ σπέρμα, καὶ ὅτι κληρονομήσει τὴν γῆν. Ὁ Χοδολαγομὸρ, ἐπειδὴ ἀπέστησαν αὐτοῦ οἱ πέντε βασιλεῖς οἱ τῆς Σοδομηνῆς, δουλεύοντες αὐτῷ πρότερον, παραλαβὼν ἑτέρους βασιλεῖς τρεῖς, ἐπεστράτευσεν αὐτοῖς, καὶ τροπωσάμενος ἔλαβεν αἰχμαλώτους· ἐν οἷς ἦν καὶ ὁ Λώτ. Ὁ δὲ Ἀβραὰμ ἀκούσας, καὶ σὺν τοῖς οἰκογενέσιν αὐτοῦ τριακοσίοις δεκαοκτὼ καταδιώξας, ἐξείλετο τὸν ἀδελφιδοῦν μετὰ τῆς ἵππου καὶ τῶν γυναικῶν·
