Others call them Coldians, and others call them Borborites. These boast of Barbelo and Bero. 27 Carpocratians, from a certain Carpocrates of Asia. This man taught to perform every foul deed and every practice of sin. And unless someone, he says, passes through all things and performs the will of all the demons and angels, he will not be able to pass beyond the highest heaven nor pass by the principalities nor the powers. And he said that Jesus had received an intelligent soul, and, knowing the things above, proclaimed them here and, if anyone should do things similar to Jesus, he is like him, and he forbade the law along with the resurrection of the dead, as the heresies from Simon and since. Of this one, Marcellina arose in Rome. And being Jews they use the gospels, but they abhor the eating of flesh, they hold water instead of God, and that Christ put on a man in his incarnate presence, as I said. They are constantly baptized in the waters both of summer and winter, for purification, so they say, just as the Samaritans. 31 Valentinians, who forbid the resurrection of the flesh, and reject the old testament, and reading the prophets and accepting whatever else can be allegorized into a likeness of their own heresy. They introduce certain other mythologies, speaking the names of thirty aeons, androgynous beings produced together from the father of all things, whom they consider both gods and aeons. And that Christ brought his flesh from heaven and passed through Mary as through a pipe. 32 Secundians, with whom are joined Epiphanes and Isidorus, using the same syzygies, having thought the same things as Valentinus, but relating some things differently from him. They add teachings of foul deeds. And they themselves also forbid the flesh. 33 Ptolemaeans, themselves also being disciples of Valentinus, with whom is joined Flora; and these also say the same things concerning the syzygies just as the Valentinians and Secundians, but in some way these also differ.
