Hail, because many times many of the pious kings considered gold as clay on account of you, and silver as ash. Hail, because many of the Christ-loving queens considered gem-gleaming crowns on account of you, and gold-threaded purple robes, as more worthless than a spider's web, Hail, because many of the noble scorned Indian and crystalline stones on account of you. Hail, because many, so to speak, even of noble women considered as nothing on account of you the admirable things of fine linen and scarlet, and all-purple, and all-silk. Hail, because many even of the adulterous women considered jewel-studded earrings, and arm-bracelets as more feeble than leaves. Hail, because very many times the glorious and renowned, and indeed the rich, considered the thousands of gold and silver as refuse on account of you.
