Jo 17,5 The pre-cosmic glory of the son of God, what else could it be but God the Word himself, the "true light" itself, for he is not glorified as being someone other than the glory by another glory through another, being himself, as I said before, the "lord of glory" and king of glory. But since "he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant"—for "the Word," it says, "became flesh" and we saw him "and he had no form nor beauty"—and many disbelieved in so great a condescension that had occurred, many disbelieved that God became man; for this reason, wishing his divinity to be revealed to those who were ignorant, he says: "Father, glorify your Son," that is, reveal me to those who are ignorant, manifest my glory which I have with you, being God the Word. Wherefore Paul said, "when it pleased" God "to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles."

προξενεῖ ἡμῖν τὴν αἰώνιον ζωήν. Jo 17,5 Ἡ προκόσμιος τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ θεοῦ δόξα τί ἂν εἴη ἕτερον ἢ αὐτὸς θεὸς λόγος, αὐτὸ "φῶς ἀληθινόν", οὐ γὰρ ὡς ἄλλος ὢν παρὰ τὴν δόξαν ὑπ' ἄλλης δόξης δι' ἄλλου δοξάζεται αὐτὸς ὤν, ὡς προεῖπον, ὁ "κύριος τῆς δόξης" καὶ βασιλεὺς δόξης. ἀλλ' ἐπειδὴ "ἑαυτὸν ἐκένωσεν μορφὴν δούλου λαβών" - ὁ γὰρ "λόγος", φησίν, "σὰρξ ἐγένετο" καὶ εἴδομεν αὐτὸν "καὶ οὐκ εἶχεν εἶδος οὐδὲ κάλλος"-πολλοὶ δὲ ἠπίστουν τῇ τοσαύτῃ γενομένῃ συγκαταβάσει, πολλοὶ ἠπίστουν, ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐγένετο τούτου ἕνεκεν, ἀποκαλύπτεσθαι αὐτοῦ τὴν θεότητα τοῖς ἀγνοοῦσι βουλόμενος, λέγει· "πάτερ δόξασόν Joυ τὸν υἱόν", τοῦτ' ἔστιν ἀποκάλυψόν με τοῖς ἀγνοοῦσι, φανέρωσόν μου τὴν δόξαν ἣν ἔχω παρά Joι θεὸς λόγος τυγχάνων. διὸ εἶπε Παῦλος, "ὅτε εὐδόκησεν" ὁ θεὸς "ἀποκαλύψαι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐμοί, ἵνα εὐαγγελίζωμαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν".
