In the 85th year a daughter was born to them, and they named her Asuam. In the 97th year Cain brought an offering. In the 99th year Abel brought a sacrifice to God, being 22 years old, at the full moon of the 7th month among the Hebrews, that is, at the feast of tabernacles. It is to be noted that scripture calls Cain's offering of fruits a sacrifice, but Abel's gifts, showing the manner of each. In the same year Cain killed Abel, and the first-formed mourned him for four weeks of years, that is, 28 years. In the 127th year Adam and Eve put away their mourning. In the 135th year Cain took his own sister Asaunan, being 50 years old. and he was 65 years old. Cain, therefore, the first murderer of the righteous Abel, bears the type of the devil, as an inventor of evil and appearing unrepentant at the beginning of the creation of the world, but Lamech bears the type of the Jewish deicidal people who, in the middle of the 6th age, crucified the savior, whose sin and vengeance is also manifold. Seth was pious and very well-formed, and all those from him were pious and beautiful. These, according to the command of Adam, dwelt in the higher land of Eden, opposite paradise, living like angels, until the thousandth cosmic year. The author of evil, not bearing to see their virtuous way of life, wounded them with the beauty of the then daughters of men, 10 concerning whom the divine Moses also says that the sons of God, seeing that the daughters of men were beautiful, took wives for themselves from them. Τῷ ζζʹ ἔτει προσήνεγκε Κάιν. Τῷ ζθʹ ἔτει Ἄβελ ἀνήνεγκε θυσίαν τῷ θεῷ κβʹ ἔτος ἄγων, κατὰ τὴν πανσέληνον τοῦ ζʹ μηνὸς παρ' Ἑβραίοις, ἤγουν ἐν τῇ σκηνοπηγίᾳ. Σημειωτέον ὅτι τὴν Κάιν καρποφορίαν θυσίαν καλεῖ ἡ γραφή, τὰ δὲ τοῦ Ἄβελ δῶρα, δηλοῦσα τὸν τρόπον ἑκατέρου. Τῷ αὐτῷ θʹ ἔτει ἀνεῖλεν ὁ Κάιν τὸν Ἄβελ, καὶ ἐπένθησαν αὐτὸν οἱ πρωτόπλαστοι ἑβδομαδικοὺς δʹ, ἤγουν ἔτη κηʹ. Τῷ ρκζʹ ἔτει ὁ Ἀδὰμ καὶ ἡ Εὔα ἀπέθεντο τὸ πένθος. Τῆς θείας γραφῆς περὶ τοῦ γένους Κάιν Καὶ ἔγνω Κάιν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκε τὸν Ἐνώχ. καὶ ἦν οἰκοδομῶν πόλιν καὶ ἐπωνόμασε τὴν πόλιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ Ἐνώχ. ἐγεννήθη δὲ τῷ Ἐνὼχ Γαϊδάδ· καὶ Γαϊδὰδ ἐγέννησε τὸν 9 Μαλελεήλ· καὶ Μαλελεὴλ ἐγέννησε τὸν Μαθουσάλα· καὶ Μαθουσάλα ἐγέννησε τὸν Λάμεχ. οὗτος ὁ Λάμεχ ἕκτος ὢν ἀπὸ Κάιν, ὃς πρῶτος ἐν ἀνθρώποις φονεὺς ἐγένετο, ἔλαβε δύο γυναῖκας καὶ δεύτερον φόνον ἐποίησε. Κάιν οὖν πρῶτος φονεὺς Ἄβελ τοῦ δικαίου τύπον φέρει τοῦ διαβόλου, ὡς ἐφευρετὴς τοῦ κακοῦ καὶ ἀμεταμέλητος ἐν ἀρχῇ τῆς κοσμογονίας φανείς, Λάμεχ δὲ τύπον φέρει τοῦ Ἰουδαϊκοῦ κυριοκτόνου λαοῦ κατὰ τὸν ςʹ αἰῶνα μεσοῦντα σταυρώσαντος τὸν σωτῆρα, οὗ καὶ πολλαπλασίως ἡ ἁμαρτία καὶ ἡ ἐκδίκησις. ἀλλὰ καὶ ὁ κύριος οζʹ ἀπὸ Ἀδάμ. Τῷ ρ ζςʹ ἔτει ἐγεννήθη τῷ Κάιν ὁ Ἐνώχ. οὗτος πρῶτος ἄροτρον εὗρεν. Τῷ ρ ζζʹ ἔτει Κάιν ἔκτισε πόλιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ Ἐνώχ· Ἄβελ δὲ δικαιοσύνης ἐφρόντιζεν. ὁ Κάιν μετὰ τὴν καταδίκην ἅρπαξ καὶ πλεονέκτης μᾶλλον ἐγένετο μέτρα καὶ σταθμία καὶ ὅρους γῆς πρῶτος ἐπινοήσας. τοὺς δὲ οἰκείους εἰς ἓν συναγαγὼν ἐν πολέμοις ἀσχολεῖσθαι ἐδίδασκεν. οὗτος χθαμαλὸς ἦν ἀπὸ τῆς κατάρας τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐξ αὐτοῦ γεννώμενοι. ᾤκει δὲ τὴν γῆν ἥτις ἐστὶ τρέμουσα, χαμηλὴ οὖσα, κεχωρισμένος ὑπάρχων ἐκ τοῦ Σήθ, κατὰ πρόσταξιν τοῦ Ἀδάμ. οἱ ἐκ τοῦ Σὴθ υἱοὶ θεοῦ λεγόμενοι καὶ ἐγρήγοροι τὴν ὑψηλοτέραν γῆν τῆς Ἐδὲμ πλησίον τοῦ παραδείσου κατῴκουν. Τῷ σλʹ ἔτει Ἀδάμ, ἐν ᾧ ὁ Σὴθ ἐγεννήθη, ρξʹ ἔτος ὑπῆρχε τοῦ Κάιν. Τῷ δὲ σλδʹ ἔτει ἐγέννησε θυγατέρα, ἣν ὠνόμασεν Ἀζουράν. Τῷ σμγʹ ἔτει τοῦ Ἀδὰμ ἀπεγαλακτίσθη ὁ Σήθ. Τῷ σοʹ ἔτει τοῦ Ἀδὰμ ὁ Σὴθ ἁρπαγεὶς ὑπὸ ἀγγέλων ἐμυήθη τὰ περὶ τῆς παραβάσεως μέλλοντα ἔσεσθαι τῶν ἐγρηγόρων, καὶ τὰ περὶ τοῦ κατακλυσμοῦ τοῦ ὕδατος ἐσομένου καὶ τὰ περὶ τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ σωτῆρος. καὶ γενόμενος ἄφαντος ἡμέρας μʹ ἐλθὼν ἐξηγήσατο τοῖς πρωτοπλάστοις ὅσα ἐμυήθη δι' ἀγγέλων. ἦν δὲ τότε ἐτῶν μʹ. ὁ Σὴθ εὐσεβὴς ἦν καὶ εὐδιά πλαστος σφόδρα καὶ οἱ ἐξ αὐτοῦ πάντες εὐσεβεῖς καὶ ὡραῖοι ἦσαν. οὗτοι κατὰ πρόσταγμα τοῦ Ἀδὰμ τὴν ὑψηλοτέραν γῆν ᾤκουν τῆς Ἐδέμ, κατέναντι τοῦ παραδείσου, ἀγγελικῶς βιοῦντες, ἕως τοῦ χιλιοστοῦ κοσμικοῦ ἔτους. τούτων τὴν ἐνάρετον πολιτείαν μὴ φέρων ὁ ἀρχέκακος βλέπειν, εἰς τὴν ὡραιότητα τῶν τότε θυγατέρων τῶν ἀνθρώπων αὐτοὺς ἔτρωσε, 10 περὶ ὧν φησι καὶ ὁ θεῖος Μωϋσῆς ὅτι ἰδόντες οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ θεοῦ τὰς θυγατέ ρας τῶν ἀνθρώπων ὅτι καλαί εἰσιν, ἔλαβον ἑαυτοῖς γυναῖκας ἐξ αὐτῶν. Τῷ υκεʹ ἔτει ὁ Σὴθ ἔλαβε γυναῖκα Ἀζουρὰν τὴν ἰδίαν ἀδελφήν. ἦν δὲ Σὴθ ἐτῶν ρ ζεʹ, Ἀζουρὰ δὲ ἐτῶν ρ ζαʹ. Τῷ υλεʹ ἔτει ἐγεννήθη τῷ Σὴθ ὁ Ἐνώς. οὗτος γενόμενος ἐτῶν ἑκατὸν ἐνενήκοντα ἐγέννησε τὸν Καϊνᾶν τῷ χκεʹ ἔτει. Ἀπὸ Ἀδὰμ ἕως γεννήσεως Ἐνὼς ἔτη τετρακόσια τριάκοντα πέντε, δηλούσης τῆς γραφῆς· Ἐνὼς ἤλπισεν ἐπικαλεῖσθαι τὸ ὄνομα κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ πρῶτος, τοῦτ' ἔστι προσαγορεύεσθαι ὀνόματι θεοῦ. ἑρμηνεύεται γὰρ ὁ Ἐνὼς ὡσανεὶ ἄνθρωπος κατὰ τὸν Ἑβραϊκὸν νοῦν. οὕτω δὲ καὶ ὁ σωτὴρ υἱὸς τοῦ ὄντος ἀνθρώπου, κατὰ τὸν φυσικὸν λόγον Ἀφρικανοῦ.
