then peoples as spectators of your punishment, so many you now have as servants of your honor. We are in need of many good deeds; intercede for your homeland to the common king; for a martyr's homeland is the land of his suffering; and his fellow citizens and kinsmen, are those who have prepared him for burial and possess and honor him. We look on tribulations with suspicion, we expect dangers, not far off the accursed Scythians are travailing with war against us; as a soldier, fight for us; as a martyr, use your boldness on behalf of your fellow servants. Even if you have passed beyond this life, yet you know the passions and the needs of humanity; ask for peace, so that these festivals may not cease, so that a raving and lawless barbarian may not revel against our churches or altars, so that a profane man may not trample the holy things.
For we reckon to you the benefaction even for those things from which we were kept unharmed; and we ask for security for the future. If there is need of even greater entreaty, gather the choir of your brother martyrs, and with them all make supplication; may the prayers of many righteous men release the sins of peoples and nations; remind Peter, rouse Paul, likewise John the theologian and beloved disciple; so that they may have care for the Churches which they established, for which they wore chains, for which they endured dangers and deaths; may idolatry not raise its head against us, may heresies not sprout up like thorns in the vineyard, may the tares that arise not choke the wheat; may no rock be found among us lacking the richness of the true dew, and show the power of the word's fruitfulness to be rootless; but by the power of your intercession and of those with you, O wondrous one, and crop most glorious among the martyrs, may the commonwealth of the Christians be shown to endure to the end, in the rich and fruitful field of faith in Christ ever bearing the fruit of eternal life, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. With whom to the Father together with the Holy Spirit, be glory, might, honor, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
