But again on the following night, the blessed Longinus appeared to her, having her son beside his side, radiant and smiling and wearing a garment as of a bridegroom, and says: "Behold him whom you longed for, O woman. This is he whom you thought was snatched from your hands. But God, having freed him, has enlisted him into the kingdom above. And now I have him with me; for I received him from the savior and he will never depart from my right hand. Therefore, take my head and the body of your child, and place them in one coffin, and weep no more for your only-begotten; for great glory has been bestowed upon him with me, and a holy altar and mystical sacrifices and much-praised choirs and public festivals, and many other things besides these which cannot be accomplished on earth, but in heaven "what eye has not seen and ear has not heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man," which things God, having shown His love toward us in deed and word, has prepared for us."
15 The mother of the youth, having received these words as the commands of a holy prophet, immediately arose and set out for her homeland. She took the all-honorable and holy head, and restored it to her own homeland, and she laid her child beside the holy relic of Saint Longinus, cheerfully and joyfully, just as Saint Longinus had commanded her, in a village called Sandralis—for from there was Saint Longinus—, crying out to herself and speaking in her heart and proclaiming with her tongue: "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God. I was seeking the eyes of the flesh, and with them I also received those of the spirit. The loss of my child grieved me, but behold, I have the heir standing before God with royal glory. I see the youth clad in purple, I behold the young man most comely. The boy is star-faced and smiling at his mother and at the side of Longinus shining like the morning star beside the sun's ray, appearing often at night, often during the day, and not only in a dream, but indeed he also appears to me openly in the manner of martyrs. His lot is with prophets, though he did not live the life of the prophets, and with Longinus he bears the cross, and he bears the august trophy of the kingdom of the heavens, and he preaches among angels, and in the midst of the company of archangels he has cried out as a disciple of Longinus whatever the seraphim grant to Longinus to glorify, and the cherubim do not contradict him as he hymns, he himself also utters a holy voice, hymning, triumphant, mystical, victorious: "Truly this was the Son of God," and is and will be; that which He is before the ages He has and will have for the ages. He makes the ages old, but He himself remains unaging; for His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and His authority will not be destroyed forever; to Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
16 I, Hesychius, presbyter of Jerusalem, after much searching with great labor, was able to find the martyrdom of Saint Longinus the centurion, who said at the cross of Christ, "Truly this was the Son of God"; and I found it on a sheet of paper, in the library of the holy Anastasis, and I composed his confession along with the encomium. Therefore, let those who fear the Lord be assured that this is truly Saint Longinus the centurion, who confessed Him at the cross of Christ; by whose intercession and supplication may we all be preserved, both those who read it and those who hear, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory and the power and the kingdom of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
