He serves well; for being a lover of money, when a woman came, he valued the ointment at three hundred denarii, causing her trouble; and while he valued the ointment at three hundred denarii, he sold the Master of the ointment for thirty denarii. I have, therefore, a great need to prepare a cross. He took Lazarus from me, and I will drag him down here, and I will number him with the dead, so that he may learn not to campaign against a greater one. But the powers below said to him: Do you wish to make the whole of Jesus cease here? See that you do not labor against yourself; you have experience of him; you wrestled with him in the wilderness; did you not approach him a third time, and fall three times? But if he comes down, what will you do?

Having planned these things and things similar to them, the devil stirred up the Jews to greater envy, and provoked them to kill the one who had raised Lazarus from the dead, and to prepare a cross for the Lord, so that the curse might become a blessing, and the wood of the cross salvation for all. For through the resurrection of Lazarus the devil was troubled, and the Pharisees were confounded, Martha was fully assured, Mary was glorified, the resurrection was foreshadowed, the disciples became stronger, and many of the Jews who believed in our Lord Jesus Christ met him with branches and palm leaves 61.719 crying out and saying: Hosanna in the highest; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the king 61.720 of Israel; to him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. καλῶς ὑπουργεῖ· φιλάργυρος γὰρ ὢν, προσελθούσης γυναικὸς τὸ μύρον τριακοσίων δηναρίων διετιμήσατο, κόπους παρέχων αὐτῇ· καὶ τὸ μὲν μύρον διετιμήσατο τριακοσίων δηναρίων, τὸν δὲ ∆εσπότην τοῦ μύρου τριάκοντα δηναρίων ἐπώλησε. Πολλῆς μοι οὖν σπουδῆς χρεία σταυρὸν κατασκευάσαι. Αὐτός μου τὸν Λάζαρον ἔλαβεν, ἐγὼ δὲ αὐτὸν ὧδε καθ-ελκύσω, καὶ τοῖς νεκροῖς συναριθμήσω, ἵνα μάθῃ κατὰ μείζονος μὴ στρατεύεσθαι. Αἱ δὲ κάτω δυνάμεις πρὸς αὐτόν· Ὅλον τὸν Ἰησοῦν ὧδε καταπαῦσαι βούλει; βλέπε μὴ καθ' ἑαυτοῦ κάμνῃς· ἔχεις αὐτοῦ πεῖραν· ἐπάλαισας αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· οὐχὶ τρίτον προσῆλθες, καὶ τρισσῶς ἔπεσας; Ἐὰν δὲ κατέλθῃ, τί μέλλεις πράττειν;

Ταῦτα βουλευσάμενος καὶ τὰ παραπλήσια τούτων, ὁ διάβολος τοὺς Ἰουδαίους εἰς μείζονα φθόνον διήγειρε, καὶ ἠρέθισε θανατῶσαι τὸν Λάζαρον ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστήσαντα, καὶ σταυρὸν τῷ Κυρίῳ κατασκευάσαι, ἵνα γένηται ἡ κατάρα εὐλογία, καὶ τὸ ξύλον τοῦ σταυροῦ τοῖς πᾶσι σωτηρία. ∆ιὰ γὰρ τῆς τοῦ Λαζάρου ἀναστάσεως ὁ μὲν διάβολος ἐταράχθη, οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι συνεχύθησαν, ἡ Μάρθα ἐπληροφορήθη, ἡ Μαρία ἐδοξάσθη, ἡ ἀνάστασις προανεδείχθη, οἱ μαθηταὶ κραταιότεροι ἐγένοντο, καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν Ἰουδαίων πιστευσάντων εἰς τὸν Κύριον ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ὑπήντησαν αὐτῷ μετὰ κλάδων καὶ βαΐων 61.719 κράζοντες καὶ λέγοντες· Ὡσαννὰ ἐν τοῖς ὑψίστοις· εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ἐν ὀνόματι Κυρίου, βασι 61.720 λεὺς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ· αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα καὶ τὸ κράτος εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
