this one introducing. He rejects the resurrection of the dead, and by means of cups and incantations, changing some phantasms into a dark blue and purple color, he initiated the deceived women. And he himself, like Valentinus, wishes to consider all things to be of the twenty-four elements. 35 Colorbasians. And this Colorbasus, similarly relating the same things, but differing in some way from other heresies—I mean, those concerning Marcus and Valentinus—taught the emanations and ogdoads differently. 36 Heracleonites; and these seem to adhere to the mythology of the ogdoads, differently from Marcus and Ptolemaeus and Valentinus and the others. But also at the end, those among them who are dying they redeem, similarly to Marcus, through oil, opobalsam, and water, pronouncing certain invocations in Hebrew words over the head of the one supposedly being redeemed. 37 Ophites, who glorify the serpent and consider it to be Christ, having a physical serpent, the reptile, in a certain chest. 38 Cainites, likewise along with the other heresies that reject the law and the one who spoke in the law, hold the same opinions. Denying the resurrection of the flesh, they glorify Cain, saying that he is from the stronger power. And at the same time they also deify Judas, together with those around Korah and Dathan and Abiram, and also the Sodomites themselves. 39 Sethians. These in turn glorify Seth, claiming that he is from the mother above who repented for having brought forth those around Cain, then after Cain was cast out and Abel was killed, having come together with the father above she made Seth, a pure seed, from whom the entire race of men was then descended. And they too principalities and powers, and whatever the others dogmatize. 40 Archontics. These in turn refer everything to many rulers and say that what comes into being has been generated from them; and they are also caught in some shameful act. And they reject the resurrection of the flesh and cast off the Old Testament. But they make use of the Old and New Testament, manipulating each word according to their own mind. 41 Cerdonians, from Cerdo who succeeded Heracleon in the participation of the error, adding to the deception; who, having moved from Syria to Rome, set forth his own preaching in the times of bishop Hyginus. This one preaches two principles opposed to one another, and that Christ was not born; likewise he rejects the resurrection of the dead and the Old Testament. 42 Marcionites. Marcion, originating from Pontus, was the son of a bishop, but having seduced a virgin, he fled because he was expelled from the church by his own father. This man, having gone up to Rome, then having asked for repentance from those who were leaders of the church at that time and not receiving it, was lifted up against the faith and dogmatized three principles, a good, a just, and an evil, and that the New Testament is foreign to the Old and to the one who spoke in it. Both he and the Marcionites from him reject the resurrection of the flesh, they give not only one baptism, but also two and three after a lapse, and others among them are baptized on behalf of the dead and the catechumens. And among them women are also permitted fearlessly to give the bath. 43 Lucianists. A certain Lucian, not the one now living in the times of Constantine, but an older one, dogmatized everything according to Marcion, and in addition to these things he supposedly also dogmatizes certain other things besides Marcion. 44 Apellians. And this Apelles the same things as Marcion and Lucian
