having become, that you might be Lord of both the dead and the living, the whole mass is confident of all the dead, not without reason. “Receive, therefore, my spirit.” Do not permit your sparrow to be ambushed by those who hunt, nor for the enemies who meet at the gates to ruin my departure from the earth, nor to disturb for me the ascent to heaven.

27 But this prayer was for himself, and he offered another again for the people of the Jews: “Lord, do not set up this sin against them.” And this is it: for he did not say, “Do not count it against them,” but “Do not set it up,” surely that you might learn that our judge is an exact weigher of the scales, weighing the deeds of each at the time of judgment. For if “he has weighed the mountains in a balance and the valleys in a scale,” how does he not much more weigh our failings or our achievements? “Do not set up this sin against them.” Do not bring it up to the scale of judgment; do not weigh down by me those who are weighed down by themselves; nor let my blessing become for others an occasion for a curse, let not my gain be a cause of loss for the Jews.

28 I do not wish my sacrifice to become a harm to those who sacrifice me. For even if they sacrifice with an evil intent, yet still I revere them, who are the occasion, even against their will, for my presence with you, of the kingdom of heaven, of the release from the clay, of the transference above, of the victory of martyrdom, of the confession to you and from you. For yours is the voice to us, by which I was urged on and readily gave myself to sacrifice, and I poured out my blood as into a mixing bowl through my confession into your hands: “Everyone who confesses in me before men, I also will confess in him before my Father who is in heaven.” To him be the glory for ever and ever; amen.
