if each had said, "I am a sinner," "I am ashamed," and for this reason I should not approach, he would have gained nothing more. But since each of them did not look to the magnitude of his sins, but to the richness of God's love for mankind, he took courage, and dared, and though a sinner he asked for what was beyond his own worth, and each obtained what he wished. Let us therefore remember and keep all these things, and let us pray continually, with sobriety, with courage, with good hopes, with great earnestness. With as much earnestness as others pray against their enemies, with so much 51.372 earnestness let us pray both for our enemies and for our own brothers, and we will surely obtain all things that are profitable. For the Giver is loving towards mankind, and we do not so long to receive, as He longs to give. Knowing all these things, therefore, even if we should be brought down to the lowest depth of evil, let us not even then despair of our salvation, but let us approach with good hope, persuading ourselves that we will surely receive what we ask, if we ask according to the laws laid down by Him. To Him who is able to do all things exceedingly above what we ask or think, to Christ our all-sovereign God is due all glory, honor, and worship, with the unoriginate Father, and the all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. ἕκαστος εἰ εἶπεν, ὅτι Ἁμαρτωλός εἰμι, ὅτι Κατῃσχυμμένος εἰμὶ, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ὀφείλω προσελθεῖν, οὐκ ἂν ἤνυσέ τι πλέον. Ἀλλ' ἐπειδὴ ἕκαστος τούτων οὐ πρὸς τὸ μέγεθος εἶδε τῶν ἁμαρτημάτων, ἀλλὰ πρὸς τὸν πλοῦτον τῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ φιλανθρωπίας, ἐθάῤῥει, καὶ κατετόλμησε, καὶ ἁμαρτωλὸς ὢν ᾐτεῖτο ὑπὲρ τὴν ἀξίαν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ, καὶ ἤνυσεν ἕκαστος ἅπερ ἠθέλησε. Ταῦτ' οὖν μνημονεύωμεν ἅπαντα καὶ φυλάττωμεν, καὶ εὐχώμεθα διηνεκῶς, μετὰ νήψεως, μετὰ τοῦ θαῤῥεῖν, μετὰ χρηστῶν ἐλπίδων, μετὰ σπουδῆς πολλῆς. Μεθ' ὅσης ἕτεροι σπουδῆς κατεύχονται τῶν ἐχθρῶν, μετὰ τοσαύτης 51.372 ἡμεῖς σπουδῆς καὶ ὑπὲρ τῶν ἐχθρῶν, καὶ ὑπὲρ τῶν ἑαυτῶν ἀδελφῶν εὐξώμεθα, καὶ πάντως ἐπιτευξόμεθα τῶν συμφερόντων ἁπάντων. Φιλάνθρωπος γὰρ ὁ διδοὺς, καὶ οὐχ οὕτως ἡμεῖς ἐπιποθοῦμεν λαβεῖν, ὡς ἐκεῖνος ἐπιποθεῖ δοῦναι. Ταῦτ' οὖν ἅπαντα εἰδότες, κἂν εἰς ἔσχατον κακίας πυθμένα κατενεχθῶμεν, μηδὲ οὕτως ἀπογνῶμεν τῆς ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίας, ἀλλὰ μετὰ ἀγαθῆς ἐλπίδος προσίωμεν, πείσαντες ἑαυτοὺς ὅτι πάντως ληψόμεθα ἅπερ αἰτοῦμεν, ἂν κατὰ τοὺς ὑπ' αὐτοῦ κειμένους νόμους αἰτῶμεν. Τῷ δυναμένῳ πάντα ποιῆσαι ὑπὲρ ἐκπερισσοῦ ὧν αἰτούμεθα ἢ νοοῦμεν, Χριστῷ τῷ παμβασιλεῖ Θεῷ ἡμῶν πρέπει πᾶσα δόξα, τιμὴ καὶ προσκύνησις, σὺν τῷ ἀνάρχῳ Πατρὶ, καὶ τῷ παναγίῳ καὶ ζωοποιῷ Πνεύματι, νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ, καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
