Therefore, considering all things, let us take him as an ally and helper for the labor on behalf of virtue, contributing everything on our part. For if he accomplished so easily a matter having so great a difficulty, not in one or two or twenty cities, but everywhere in the inhabited world, I mean the preaching and the teaching, and upon as much land as the sun looks upon, all this has been sown and abounds with this most beautiful fruit; it is clear that he will also assist us in the toils for virtue, only if we are not supine and reclining, but contribute what is from ourselves: eagerness, zeal, will, purpose, vigilance, care, to be free from the affairs of this life, to seek the things to come, to love them each day. For if we provide these things with precision, all the things from him will also follow; and when those things have come to be, we will obtain the heavenly good things; may it be that we all attain them, by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the dominion unto the ages of ages. Amen.

οὖν ἅπαντα ἐννοοῦντες, καὶ εἰς τὸν ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀρετῆς πόνον αὐτὸν λάβωμεν σύμμαχον καὶ βοηθὸν, τὰ παρ' ἑαυτῶν πάντα εἰσφέροντες. Εἰ γὰρ πρᾶγμα τοσαύτην ἔχον δυσκολίαν, οὕτω ῥᾳδίως κατώρθωσεν, οὐκ ἐν μιᾷ καὶ δύο καὶ εἴκοσι πόλεσιν, ἀλλὰ πανταχοῦ τῆς οἰκουμένης, λέγω δὴ τὸ κήρυγμα καὶ τὴν διδασκαλίαν, καὶ εἰς ὅσην ἥλιος ἐφορᾷ γῆν ἅπασα αὕτη κατέσπαρται καὶ βρύει τῷ καλλίστῳ τούτῳ καρπῷ· εὔδηλον ὅτι καὶ εἰς τοὺς ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀρετῆς ἱδρῶτας συνεφάψεται ἡμῖν, μόνον ἐὰν μὴ ὕπτιοι καὶ ἀναπεπτωκότες ὦμεν ἡμεῖς, ἀλλὰ τὰ παρ' ἑαυτῶν συνεισφέρωμεν, προθυμίαν, σπουδὴν, βούλησιν, γνώμην, ἀγρυπνίαν, φροντίδα, τὸ τῶν βιωτικῶν ἀπαλλαχθῆναι πραγμάτων, τὸ ζητεῖν τὰ μέλλοντα, τὸ καθ' ἑκάστην ἡμέραν αὐτῶν ἐρᾷν. Ἂν γὰρ ταῦτα μετὰ ἀκριβείας παρέχωμεν, καὶ τὰ παρ' αὐτοῦ πάντα ἕψεται· καὶ γενομένων ἐκείνων τευξόμεθα τῶν οὐρανίων ἀγαθῶν· ὧν γένοιτο πάντας ἡμᾶς ἐπιτυχεῖν, χάριτι καὶ φιλανθρωπίᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, ᾧ ἡ δόξα καὶ τὸ κράτος εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
