Wrath is the passion of those who are sent away; for it has its being only in the spirited power of the soul, outside of which it does not exist at all; for it is one of those things which have their being in others. 33Ps 6,3-4a But the healing of the soul's weakness is the power from God, so that the one who has obtained it says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That where the scripture says 'Bones,' the meaning is not always about the perceptible ones, one must pay attention to All my bones shall say, "Lord, Lord, who is like you?" and to Our bones are scattered beside Hades. 34 Ps 6,5a 'Return' is understood in two ways. For sometimes a meaning such as this is indicated: since you turned your face from me, for what is useful to me I beseech you, that you might return and show it to me. But at other times a contemplation such as this is presented: since my soul, in sinning, has turned away to its own harm, turn it back to yourself, calling it according to Return, you apostate sons, to redeem it from the sins that have distanced it and from the evil powers that work them. 35Ps 6,6-7 Those who suppose the preceding things were spoken about the common death are mistaken, or rather, are impious. For holy men not only have memory of God when they have the common life, but much more so when they are separated from the corruptible body. What then does it say? Since no one remembering you is in the death which sin brings forth (and this is what separates the sinning soul from a virtuous life), but I long to have memory of you; for this very reason, inclining your goodness: save me, lest, when the present weakness and confusion prevail against me, I be swallowed up by death. For it is not said, 'He who is in death does not remember God,' but, 'He who remembers him is not in death,' concerning which the Savior says, 'He who hears my word will not see death forever.' 36Ps 6,8b See if 'I have grown old among all my enemies' can also have another meaning. When I was living with righteousness, I was always young, living according to the newness of the spirit and the new covenant; but since, through our carelessness, I departed from living commendably, coming to be among my enemies, I have grown old according to the oldness of that man, whom Paul exhorts us to put off (and this is a wicked life), so that 'we may put on the new man who was created according to God in holiness and knowledge of the truth,' and this is the unspotted life. 37 Ps 6,9 But you will understand these things to be said also to the invisible enemies and evil powers who contrived the plot against him, who are jealous of his progress according to God and who after the sin maliciously say, 'There is no salvation for him in his God.' 38 Ps 6,11 With a good intention he prays for his enemies; for he wishes them to be ashamed of what they were doing, on account of which they were enemies of the righteous and of God. And this will be beneficial to them; for he who is ashamed out of awareness and is troubled by the evil worked by him, having condemned it, will cease to act so any longer. The interpretation is confirmed by the following verse which is as follows: 'Let the enemies, being troubled, turn back,' no longer being driven forward by wickedness but turning back to the virtuous way of life they had abandoned. And let this very thing, which is for their good, happen not with a temporal delay or slackly, but 'Exceedingly, with speed.'
39 Ps 7,1 Son of Jemeni he was called from the people, from where Saul and Shimei were
and the one who brought the news of Saul, but son of Arachi from his father, and 'chief companion' means the leader of the friends and old in friendship. He sings the psalm practically, bringing it forth at the same time also theoretically. And in the inscription of the fourth it is said that the psalm denotes practice, but the ode denotes theory; and since there are inscriptions having 'A Psalm of an ode' or 'An Ode of a psalm,' it must be said concerning them, that of a psalm
