37 Concerning Lazarus. 38 Concerning the palm branches. 39 Concerning the myrrh. 40 Concerning the mystery. 41 Concerning the washing of the feet. 42 Concerning the betrayal. 43 Concerning the denial of Peter. 44 Concerning the crucifixion of the Lord. 45 Concerning the burial of the Lord. 46 Concerning wretched Hades. 47 Concerning the resurrection. 48 Concerning Galilee. 49 Concerning Thomas. 50 Concerning the ascension. And he stood, having gone up to a rugged watch-tower, and they were shaken and all stood opposite, they who were his most cherished and dearest of companions, and the mother, who bore him and nourished him when he was little. But he himself to the strong Father's well-built house appeared to go with the clouds into the broad heaven. And the automatic gates of heaven, which the Hours held, roared, from all their depths; nor did they fail to recognize the Lord. And back again he sat down upon the throne, from which he had risen, being such as I first perceived him, like his own Father God in body and in form; and so he sat down before him, glorying in his honor, having darted to the right hand; and all the earth around laughed. To him have been entrusted the great heaven and Olympus and the scepter and the ordinances, that you may give them counsel, and the sun, who sees all and hears all, and the Bear, which they also call by the name of Wain, and the rivers and the earth and those below who are weary. He judges the many quarrels of vigorous men who go to law, whether they are insolent and savage and not just, like pirates over the sea, such things they say, or hospitable and their mind is god-fearing, he who may be blameless himself and may know blameless things. And the possessions, as many as are yours, both those within and those without, let him gather them and give them to the people to be consumed publicly by strangers and by the poor; and a gift is both small and dear. Him indeed to the Elysian plain and the ends of the earth, and send him to be carried along with swift escorts; and he has for me a garden of many trees, so that most quickly they will be witnesses and overseers of the covenants, witnesses, whom the Fates, bearing death, did not take. But whoever refuses and firmly says no, him he will seize and hurl into misty Tartarus and to Cocytus, which is indeed an offshoot of the water of Styx. But now I shall prophesy to you and I will not conceal it, how Jesus will return; and let it be good news to you, so that one may speak thus, even among later generations of men, how then the gracious god gave to you a divine song late, late-fulfilled, whose fame will never perish, who dwelt in Phrygia by the streams of the Sangarius, and exulting then he was pre-eminent among all the heroes, as many as were then leaders and rulers of the Danaans.
