20. Philosophize these things with us, O divine and sacred head, who have gathered much experience over a long time, from which wisdom comes. With these things prepare your people. Teach them to break bread for the hungry, and to gather in the poor who are without shelter, and to cover the naked, and not to neglect those of their own blood; and now especially, so that our good may be from our need, not from our abundance; in which fruitfulness God rejoices more, than in the multitude of the offering and the greatness of the gift. In addition to these things, and before these things, be for me a Moses, or a Phinehas today. Stand for us, and make atonement; and let the breaking cease, whether through a spiritual sacrifice, or through prayer and rational intercession. Restrain the wrath of the Lord by your mediation; stop the succession of the scourge. He knows how to respect the grey hairs of a father interceding for his children. Pray concerning the past wickedness; give security for the future. Bring near 35.964 a people purified by plague and fear. Ask for bodily food; ask before this also for the angelic food that comes down from heaven. If you do this, you will make God your own, you will tame heaven, you will restore the early and the latter rain; The Lord will give goodness, and our land will give its fruit, the earth below, that is, the daily fruit, and our dust, the eternal, which we shall store up in the divine wine-presses through you, who bring near both us and what is ours, in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory for ever. Amen.

Κʹ.
