man, since he is both soul and body.” And again we say: God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, and man is Peter and man is Paul. 51 A hypostasis is so-and-so and so-and-so, Peter and Paul, and Peter is not Paul nor is Paul Peter, but another and another, and two and not one, even if they share in one nature, nor are Peter and Andrew one, but two, even if they share in one nature and the same father and the same mother and the same grace and dignity; for nothing can make one son except the identity of the hypostasis. 52 Just as *ousia* and nature are the same thing among the holy fathers, so also hypostasis and person are the same thing. 53 Is the only-begotten and pre-eternal Son of God and the son of the virgin of one nature or two? Of one hypostasis or two? One will of divinity and humanity, or two, one and another? One energy of divinity and humanity, or two, one and another? Is natural sonship and sonship by grace one, or one and another? Is the son of the virgin a servant of God? Is servitude and lordship one dignity, or one and another? They spat in the face of the only-begotten and pre-eternal Son, but into what face? When Gabriel was sent and spoke to the virgin on behalf of God, was his person and God's one person? If there is one and another nature, and one and another will, and one and another energy, and one and another hypostasis, and one <and another> sonship, and one <and another> dignity, and one and another person, how are there not two sons? 54 It is necessary to guard these things in every way: That the divinity is impassible and immutable, in God three worshipped hypostases, and to believe in the Trinity and be baptized, and not to worship the creation, and to keep the Holy Scripture, both the Old and the New, in harmony.
