it was very bright like the light; and the hairs of his head and of his beard were like snow. But the bishop of Antioch wished to take a hair from his beard for a blessing, and his hand was withered, and all the bishops made a prayer for him, weeping and saying to the holy relic that ‘None of your limbs or garments are missing, nor again will anyone take from your holy and precious relic.’ And as they said these things with weeping, the bishop's hand was restored to health. And then with psalms and hymns they placed him in the coffin.

30 But I, the sinner, five or six days before his repose, saw a man in a fearsome robe, which I am not able to describe, and his height being like that of two men, and speaking with him a third of the day and giving him the love-feast. But I wished to relate to some what concerned him, and my mind was seized and I was prevented from speaking until he fell asleep. Therefore, as the man whom I mentioned came to him, I saw them, he says, eating; but what they were eating, I did not know, and they were singing psalms; but what psalms they sang, I did not know, except only for the amen. And fear surrounded me at the sight of the man.

31 Therefore, they place the coffin of the saint upon the cart, and thus with candles and incense and psalmody they carry him away to their city, Antioch. But as they were coming to about five miles from the city, in a place called Merope, the mules stood still and would not move; for a wondrous mystery was there; for there was a tomb on the right of the road. And a certain man stayed by it; and the matter concerning the man was as follows. He loved a married woman for twenty years and was not able to possess her. And the woman died, and they placed her in that tomb. And so that the hater of good might somehow win the soul of the man, going to the tomb he opens the slab of the tomb and has intercourse with the dead body. And immediately he was made dumb and was held fast in the tomb and was no longer able to depart from that place. And as the travelers passed by, they attended to him sitting on the steps of the tomb, and each for God’s sake would bring him, one water, another food. But by the will of God, as the precious relic was passing by on that day, and (he being) neither speaking nor hearing, when the cart and the crowd stopped, he came out of the tomb crying out and saying: ‘Have mercy on me, holy one of God, Symeon,’ and taking hold of the cart, immediately his restraints were opened and his senses returned to his mind. And all who saw what had happened glorified God, and from the cry of the people that place was shaken. And the man cried out: ‘Today through you I have been saved, servant of God, for I was lost in sin.’

32 And the whole city came out to meet the precious relic, dressed in white with candles and lamps. And they carry him into the church called Cassian’s. And after thirty days, the general Ardaburius gives the order and places him in the Great Church, and from there again, according to a revelation of God, a votive church of the holy and venerable Symeon was built, and so with much glory and with hymns they transferred his holy relic to that votive church.

33 And many pleaded, having given gold and silver, that they might receive a blessing from his holy relics. And the bishop granted it to no one, on account of the oaths which he had sworn. And many healings are performed in the place where his precious relics are laid, through the grace given to him by our Lord Christ. And the holy one of God, Symeon, was perfected on the first of the month of September, while reigning

ἦν φαιδρὸν πάνυ ὡς τὸ φῶς· αἱ δὲ τρίχες τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ πώγωνος ἦσαν ὡσεὶ χιών. ἠθέλησεν δὲ ὁ ἐπίσκοπος Ἀντιοχείας ἆραι τρίχαν τοῦ πώγω νος αὐτοῦ εἰς εὐλογίαν καὶ ἐξηράνθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐποί ησαν πάντες οἱ ἐπίσκοποι ὑπὲρ αὐτοῦ εὐχὴν κλαίοντες καὶ λέγοντες τῷ ἁγίῳ λειψάνῳ ὅτι Οὐδέν σοι λείπει τῶν μελῶν ἢ τῶν ἱματίων οὔτε πάλιν ἀρεῖ τις ἐκ τοῦ ἁγίου σου καὶ τι μίου λειψάνου. καὶ ταῦτα αὐτῶν λεγόντων μετὰ κλαυθμοῦ ἀπεκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ τοῦ ἐπισκόπου ὑγιής. καὶ τότε μετὰ ψαλμῶν καὶ ὕμνων ἔβαλον αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ γλωσσοκόμῳ.

30 Ἐγὼ δὲ ὁ ἁμαρτωλὸς ἐθεώρουν πρὸ πέντε καὶ ἓξ ἡμερῶν τῆς ἀναπαύσεως αὐτοῦ ἄνδραν ἐν στολῇ φοβερᾷ, ᾗ οὐ δύναμαι διηγήσασθαι καὶ τὸ μῆκος αὐτοῦ ὄντα ὡς δύο ἀνθρώπων καὶ λαλοῦντα αὐτῷ τρίτον τῆς ἡμέρας καὶ διδοῦντα αὐτῷ τὴν ἀγάπην. ἐγὼ δὲ ἠθέλησα διηγήσασθαί τισιν τὰ περὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ νοῦς μου ἡρπάζετο καὶ ἐκωλυόμην τοῦ λαλεῖν ἕως οὗ ἀνεπάη. καθὼς οὖν ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἀνήρ, ὃν εἶπον, ἐθεώρουν, φησίν, ἐσθίοντας αὐτούς· τὸ δὲ τί ἤσθιον, οὐκ ᾔδειν καὶ ἔψαλλον· τί δὲ ἔψαλλον, οὐκ ᾔδειν, εἰ μὴ μόνον τὸ ἀμήν. καὶ φόβος με περιεῖχεν πρὸς τὴν θέαν τοῦ ἀνδρός.

31 Ἐπιτιθοῦσιν οὖν τὸ γλωσσόκομον τοῦ ἁγίου ἐπὶ τὴν καροῦχαν καὶ οὕτως μετὰ κηρῶν καὶ θυμιαμάτων καὶ ψαλμῳ-δίας ἀποφέρουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν Ἀντιόχειαν. ἐρχομένων δὲ αὐτῶν ὡς ἀπὸ μιλίων πέντε τῆς πόλεως ἐν τόπῳ λεγομένῳ Μερόπη ἐστάθησαν αἱ μοῦλαι καὶ οὐκ ἐκινῶντο· μυστήριον γὰρ παράδοξον ἦν ἐκεῖ· ἦν γὰρ ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς ὁδοῦ μνῆμα. καὶ παρέμενεν αὐτῷ τις ἀνήρ· τὸ δὲ πρᾶγμα τοῦ ἀνδρὸς τοιοῦτον ἦν. ὕπανδρον γυναῖκα ἐφίλει ἐπὶ εἴκοσι χρόνους καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθη αὐτῆς κυριεῦσαι. ἐτελεύτησεν δὲ ἡ γυνή, καὶ τιθοῦσιν αὐτὴν ἐν ἐκεῖνο τὸ μνῆμα. καὶ ἵνα πως κερδήσῃ ὁ μισόκαλος τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ ἀνδρός, ἀπελθὼν ἐν τῷ μνημείῳ παρανοίγει τὴν πλάκα τοῦ μνήματος καὶ συγγίνεται τῷ νενεκρωμένῳ σώματι. καὶ εὐθέως ἐβοβώθη καὶ ἐκρατήθη ἐν τῷ μνήματι καὶ οὐκέτι ἠδύνατο ἀναχωρῆσαι τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου. παρερχομένων δὲ τῶν ὁδοιπόρων προσεῖχον αὐτῷ καθεζομένῳ ἐν τοῖς βαθμιδίοις τοῦ μνήματος, καὶ ἕκαστος διὰ τὸν θεὸν ἀπέφερεν αὐτῷ, ὃς μὲν ὕδωρ, ὃς δὲ τροφήν. κατὰ βούλησιν δὲ θεοῦ παρερχομένου τοῦ τιμίου λειψάνου ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ καὶ (λιες ὁ) μήτε λαλῶν μήτε ἀκούων τῆς καρού-χας ἱσταμένης καὶ τοῦ ὄχλου ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τοῦ μνήματος κράζων καὶ λέγων· Ἐλέησόν με, ἅγιε τοῦ θεοῦ Συμεών, καὶ ἐπιλαβό-μενος τῆς καρούχας, εὐθέως ἠνεῴχθησαν αὐτοῦ τὰ χαλινὰ καὶ αἱ φρένες αὐτοῦ ἦλθον εἰς διάνοιαν. καὶ πάντες ἰδόντες τὸ γεγονὸς ἐδόξασαν τὸν θεόν, ἀπὸ δὲ τῆς κραυγῆς τῶν ἀνθρώ-πων ἐσείετο ὁ τόπος ἐκεῖνος. ὁ δὲ ἄνθρωπος ἔκραζεν· Ἐγὼ σήμερον διὰ σοῦ ἐσώθην, δοῦλε τοῦ θεοῦ, ἀπολωλὼς γὰρ ἤμην τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ.

32 Ἐξῆλθεν δὲ πᾶσα ἡ πόλις εἰς ὑπάντησιν τοῦ τιμίου λειψάνου λευχημονοῦντες μετὰ κηρῶν καὶ λαμπάδων. καὶ εἰσφέρουσιν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τὴν λεγομένην Κασιανοῦ. καὶ μεθ' ἡμέρας τριάκοντα κελεύει ὁ στρατηλάτης Ἀρδαβού-ριος καὶ τίθησιν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ Μεγάλῃ ἐκκλησίᾳ, κἀκεῖθεν πάλιν κατὰ ἀποκάλυψιν θεοῦ οἰκοδομήθη εὐκτήριος ναὸς τοῦ ἁγίου καὶ ὁσίου Συμεὼν καὶ οὕτως μετὰ πολλῆς δόξης καὶ ὕμνων μετέθηκαν τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ λείψανον ἐν τῷ εὐκτηρίῳ ἐκείνῳ.

33 Πολλοὶ δὲ παρεκάλεσαν δεδωκότες χρυσίον καὶ ἀργύριον, ἵνα λάβωσιν εὐλογίαν ἐκ τῶν ἁγίων αὐτοῦ λειψάνων. καὶ οὐδενὶ παρέσχεν ὁ ἐπίσκοπος διὰ τοὺς ὅρκους, οὓς ὤμωσεν. πολλαὶ δὲ ἰάσεις ἐπιτελοῦνται ἐν τῷ τόπῳ, ἔνθα ἀπόκεινται τὰ τίμια αὐτοῦ λείψανα διὰ τῆς χάριτος τῆς δοθείσης αὐτῷ παρὰ τοῦ δεσπότου ἡμῶν Χριστοῦ. ἐτελειώθη δὲ ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ Συμεὼν μηνὶ σεπτεμβρίῳ αʹ βασιλεύοντος
