Let us inquire then, if there is a temple of God? There is, where he himself says he makes and perfects it. For it is written: “And it shall be, when the week is completed, a temple of God shall be built gloriously in the name of the Lord. ” I find, therefore, that there is a temple. 16.7 How then “shall it be built in the name of the Lord”? Learn: before we believed in God, the dwelling-place of our heart was corruptible and weak, truly a temple built by hand, because it was full of idolatry and was a house of demons because of doing whatever was contrary to God. 16.8a “But it shall be built in the name of the Lord”—pay attention—so that the temple of God may be built “gloriously.” How? Learn: having received the forgiveness of sins and having hoped in the name, we became new, being created again from the beginning; therefore in our dwelling-place God truly dwells in us. 16.9a How? The word of his faith, the call of his promise, the wisdom of the ordinances, the commandments of the teaching— He himself prophesying in us, he himself dwelling in us, opening for us who were enslaved to death the door of the temple, which is the mouth, giving us repentance, he leads us into the incorruptible temple. 16.10a For he who desires to be saved looks not to the man, but to him who dwells and speaks in him, being amazed at him, because he has never heard the one speaking the words from his mouth nor has he himself ever desired to hear them. This is a spiritual temple being built for the Lord.

17.1 Insofar as it was possible and in simplicity to declare it to you, my soul hopes that I have not omitted anything. 17.2 For if I write to you about present or future things, you will not understand because it lies in parables.

18.1a So much for these things; but let us also pass on to another knowledge and teaching. There are two ways of teaching and of authority, the one of light and the one of darkness; and there is a great difference between the two ways. For over the one are appointed light-bringing angels of God, but over the other, angels of Satan. 18.2 And the one is Lord from ages to ages, but the other is the ruler of the present time of iniquity.

19.1a The way of light, then, is this—if anyone wishing to travel a road to the appointed place, he should hasten by his works. Therefore, the knowledge given to us for walking in it is of this sort: 19.2a You shall love the one who made you, you shall fear the one who formed you, you shall glorify the one who redeemed you from death. You shall be simple in heart and rich in spirit. You shall not cleave to those who walk in the way of death. You shall hate everything that is not pleasing to God. You shall hate all hypocrisy. You shall not forsake the commandments of the Lord. 19.3a You shall not exalt yourself, but you shall be humble in all things. You shall not take glory for yourself, you shall not take evil counsel against your neighbor, you shall not give audacity to your soul. 19.4a You shall not commit fornication, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not corrupt boys. The word of God shall not go out from you in the impurity of any. You shall not show partiality in convicting someone for a transgression. You shall be meek, you shall be quiet, you shall be trembling at the words which you have heard. You shall not bear a grudge against your brother. 19.5a You shall not be of two minds whether it shall be or not. You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain. You shall love your neighbor more than your own soul. You shall not kill a child by abortion, nor again shall you kill it after it is born. You shall not take your hand away from your son or from your daughter, but from their youth you shall teach them the fear of the Lord. 19.6a You shall not be desirous of your neighbor's things. You shall not be covetous, nor shall you cleave with your soul to the high, but you shall associate with the just and humble. The things that happen to you, you shall accept as good, knowing that nothing happens without God. 19.7a You shall not be of two minds nor of two tongues; for a double tongue is a snare of death. You shall be subject to masters as to a type of God, in reverence and fear. You shall not command your male or female servant in bitterness, those who hope in the same God, lest they should ever not fear the God who is over both; for he came
