And when the water ceased, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, which we know are in Parthia, though some say they are in Celaenae of Phrygia; I have seen both places. The flood prevailed for a year; and then the earth was dried. They came out of the ark by pairs, as can be found, and not in the manner they entered, according to their kinds, and they are blessed by God. Each of these differences signifies something. In the 220 6th year of the world, Lamech died. In the 2228th year, Shem took a wife for himself. In the 2233rd year, Ham took a wife for himself. In the 223 6th year, Methuselah died. In the 2237th year, Japheth took a wife for himself. The ark was filled in the 2241st year of the world. And after 7 days he sent out the dove, and finding no rest, it returned to him; and after another 7 days, on the 18th of the month Adar, the 12th of Phamenoth, of March, he again sent it out from the ark, and it returned toward evening with an olive leaf in its mouth, on the 7th day of the week, and the 22nd of the moon. And after another seven days he again released the dove on the 25th of the same 12th month among the Hebrews, Adar, or on the 21st of Phamenoth, the 18th of March, and it did not return again. And at the beginning of the 2243rd year of the world, in the 601st year of the life of Noah, on the new moon of the first month Nisan, or on the 29th of the 7th month according to the Egyptians, Phamenoth, the 25th of March, on the 1st day of the week, the 12th of the moon, the water receded from the earth; and in the 2nd month, Iar 27th, or Pachon 25th, the earth was dried; and Noah and those with him went out of the ark, on the 1st day of the week. Since these things have been comprehended by us from the divinely inspired writings through Moses, it would be superfluous for those who believe without hesitation that the universal flood in the time of Noah happened in the 2242nd year of the world to pay attention to Chaldean and Egyptian histories. For they, by introducing countless myriads of years, contrive everything for the subversion of the truth, even if
