115 Mt 23, 16-22 He calls the gold in the temple the golden vessels dedicated in the sanctuary for the glory of God, namely the golden Cherubim or the golden jar that held the manna, which the Jews supposed were more precious than the temple. For this reason they were also condemned by the Lord, because not only did they overlook those who swore and permit them to swear, but because they said: It is nothing to swear by the temple; or they even accustomed the people to perjure themselves indifferently in this matter. For this reason the Lord also declares that whoever swears by the temple swears by all the things inside the temple; and the same applies in similar cases. But the statement contains a riddle against them; because, not accepting Christ the truth, they judged Moses and the types through him to be more honorable than Christ, rejecting Christ who sanctifies Moses, but praising the law, which was also praiseworthy, not because it has the shadows and the types, but because it prefigures the true mystery of the worship in Christ, just as the gold is good because of the temple that sanctifies it and heaven is good because of God who sanctifies it and dwells in it. 116 Mt 23, 25-26 But following human traditions, they washed the cups and the plates, but they polluted them by the things put inside, drinking in them wine from slander and eating from plunder. Therefore he commands to abstain from these things, so that by clean vessels they drink wine not obtained from injustice, the thing that is drunk, which is inside the cup, may also become clean.
117 Mt 24, 1 The Lord, having gone out of the temple, teaches not to pay attention to
earthly things, even if they are dedicated to God. 118 Mt 24, 9 The apostles were greatly afflicted, being plotted against by Jews and Gentiles, who were also scandalized by them. 119 Mt 24, 10 That traveling the broad and spacious way, being many and of those who seem to believe, will be scandalized. 120 Mt 24, 11 He calls false prophets the heretics who have led many of the more simple astray at the end of the age. 121 col1 Mt 24, 15 The Jews think the abomination of desolation is the final Roman war machine, or a pig's head sent into the temple to be the abomination, or the standards brought into the sanctuary by Pilate. The Jews suppose the abomination of desolation to be the final Roman war machine, that is, the pig's head sent into the temple by the Romans or the standards brought in by Pilate or what Josephus hints happened during the siege of Jerusalem; for women, having sacrificed their own children, ate them. 122 Mt 24, 15 Universally, the abomination of desolation is the antichrist, but the image of Caesar, which Pilate set up in the temple, also became an abomination of the desolation of Jerusalem. 123 Mt 24, 19 Perhaps this alludes to what Josephus says happened, when during the siege, compelled by famine, having sacrificed their own children, they ate them. 124 Mt 24, 27 For as the lightning: figuratively, the lightning of truth, to which the coming of the Son of Man is likened, is made plain in all legal, prophetic, evangelical, and apostolic scripture. And coming forth from the east, from the principles of God, it shines even to the west of the economy of the passion. But see if the law is one east, the end of the law one west. Another east to west is Jesus Christ to Paul, to whom last of all He appeared as to one untimely born. 125 Mt 24, 28 For wherever the fallen corpse of the economy of the passion is set, not the ordinary will be gathered, but the most exalted disciples and those who think and know lofty things, that is, the mysteries of the divinity. Therefore he said not vultures nor ravens, but the animal that does not eat carrion, that is, the eagle; for as the historians say about it, that it touches nothing that died of itself. 126 Mt 25, 14 He calls his going away his ascension into heaven, when he also handed over
