of trumpets. And concerning the oil, the light, and the loaves of the presentation, and concerning the year of release. Then concerning Hebrew and Gentile slaves. And concerning the prohibition of idols, it states thus: For I am your God; you shall not make for yourselves handmade things, nor carved things, you shall not set up a pillar for yourselves, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to worship it. In addition to these, threats for those who transgress, thus: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, when you were slaves, and I broke the bond of your yoke, and I led you with boldness. But if you do not obey me, nor do these my commandments, but disobey them, and your soul abhors my judgments, so that you do not do all my commandments, so as to break my covenant, I also will do this to you: I will bring upon you perplexity, and the scab, and the jaundice that wastes your eyes; and you shall sow your seeds in vain, and your enemies shall eat them. And thus the book containing these things along with the remaining precepts and commandments is completed in these things. Synopsis of Numbers. Moses is commanded to number the people from twenty years old and upward, and they were six hundred and three thousand, six hundred and fifty, besides the Levites. The Levites are recorded by genealogy, and are numbered, and they were twenty-two thousand from a month old and upward. And since the firstborn of Israel were twenty-two thousand two hundred and seventy-three, Moses took a ransom for the excess, and gives it to Aaron. The ransom was one thousand three hundred and sixty-five shekels per head. He orders who must minister, who the Levites ought to be; for not all were deemed worthy of the same honor. Some were entrusted with the more honorable vessels of the tabernacle, and others with the lesser. And the Levites from twenty years old and upward, who also ministered, until fifty years old, were eight thousand five hundred and eighty. Then he commands every unclean person to be sent out of the camp, and he discusses the sacrifice for transgression, and he orders the law of jealousy, so that a woman might not be falsely accused of adultery, 56.331 nor an adulteress be able to be received. He gives orders concerning the vow of consecration, and how the priest must bless the sons of Israel. And when the tabernacle was set up, the rulers brought many and great gifts. Moses is commanded to purify the Levites, and he hears that they must minister from twenty years old and upward, and from fifty years old they must withdraw from the ministry. God commands them through Moses to keep the Passover. For he says, Speak, and let the sons of Israel keep the Passover. For it was the first month of the second year. But the unclean came to Moses, and he brought their case to God. And God commanded that the one not able to sacrifice the Passover in the first month, either because of being unclean, or because of being on a long journey, should do it in the second month, on the fourteenth day. But if anyone, being clean, and not on a long journey, should not wish to keep the Passover in the first month, he shall be under sin. There shall be one law, he says, for the proselyte and for the native. When the cloud went up, the sons of Israel set out, and wherever it stood, there they encamped. Moses is commanded to make silver trumpets, so that through them he might signal to the people, when it was necessary to depart, when to gather the people in wars, in sacrifices, to use these trumpets in feasts, in new moons, in whole burnt offerings. And as the sons of Israel set out, Moses besought Hobab son of Reuel, also known as Jethro, to share in the journey with him, and in the good things promised to them; and when the ark set out, Moses said: Arise, Lord, let your enemies be scattered, let all who hate you flee. And the people murmured, and part of the camp was burned, and the place was called Burning. And Moses prayed, and the punishment ceased. And they sought meat, and said: We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt, the cucumbers, and

Ὡς δὲ ἐξῆραν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ, παρεκάλει τὸν Ἰωβὰρ Μωϋσῆς υἱὸν Ῥαγουὴλ τὸν καὶ Ἰοθὸρ, ὥστε αὐτῷ καὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ κοινωνῆσαι, καὶ τῶν ἐπαγγελθέντων ἀγαθῶν αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἐν τῷ ἐξαίρειν τὴν κιβωτὸν, εἶπε Μωϋσῆς· Ἐξεγέρθητι, Κύριε, διασκορπισθήτωσαν οἱ ἐχθροί σου, φυγέτωσαν πάντες οἱ μισοῦντές σε.
