But the Lord Jesus Christ gives prizes not double, but a hundredfold. For he says: Whoever leaves father or mother, house, brothers, sisters for my sake, or for the sake of the Gospel, as it is written in Mark, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life. He would not have received double the former things, if he had not shown double the virtue.

Ὁ γενναῖος ἀθλητὴς, καὶ πάντα πειρασμὸν ὑποστὰς, ἀνδρειότατος Ἰὼβ, ἆθλα λαμβάνει τῆς ὑπομονῆς αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἡ Γραφή φησιν· Πάντα διπλᾶ παρὰ τὰ πρότερα. Ὁ δὲ Κύριος Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς ἆθλα δίδωσιν οὐχὶ διπλασίονα, ἀλλ' ἑκατονταπλασίονα. Φησὶν γάρ· Ὃς ἐὰν καταλείπῃ πατέρα ἢ μητέρα, οἰκίαν, ἀδελφοὺς, ἀδελφὰς ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ, ἢ ἕνεκεν τοῦ Εὐαγγελίου, ὡς ἐν τῷ κατὰ Μάρκον γέγραπται, ἑκατονταπλασίονα λήψεται, καὶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσει. Οὐκ ἂν διπλάσια τῶν προτέρων ἔλαβεν, εἰ μὴ διπλασίονα τὴν ἀρετὴν ἐπεδείξατο.
