57. That he who has desired God with his whole soul hates the world. 58. A common teaching with reproof for all: kings, high priests,
priests, monastics, laity, spoken and said by the mouth of God.
A MYSTICAL PRAYER A mystical prayer of our father among the saints Symeon, by which he invokes the Spirit the
Holy, he who foresees it. (33) Come, the true light, come, the eternal life, come, the
hidden mystery, come, the unnameable treasure, come, the ineffable thing, come, the incomprehensible person, come, the everlasting joy, come, the never-setting light, come, the true expectation of all who are to be saved, come, the rising of the fallen, come, the resurrection of the dead, come, the mighty one, who ever makes and remakes and changes all things by Your will alone! Come, the invisible and intangible, in every way untouchable, come, You who always remain unmoved and at every hour are wholly moved and come to us who lie in Hades, You who are above all the heavens, come, the most-desired and proclaimed name, but which it is utterly impossible for us to speak of, what you are, or to know of what kind or what sort you are. Come, the eternal joy, come, the unfading crown, come, the purple of our great God and King, come, the crystal-like and jewel-studded belt, come, the unapproachable sandal, come, the royal robe and truly imperial right hand! Come, You whom my wretched soul has desired and desires, come, the alone to the alone, for I am alone, as You see! Come, You who separated me from all and made me alone upon the earth, come, You who became desire (34) itself in me and made me desire You, the completely unapproachable one! Come, my breath and life, come, the consolation of my humble soul, come, my joy and glory and continual delight! I thank You, that You became one spirit with me: without confusion,
without change, without alteration, O God over all, and You Yourself have become for me all things in all, inexpressible food that is utterly inexhaustible, ceaselessly overflowing the lips of my soul and gushing forth in the spring of my heart, raiment that flashes and consumes the demons, a purification that washes me through incorruptible and holy tears, which Your presence bestows on those whom You visit. I thank You, You have become for me a never-setting light and a sun that never sets, having nowhere to hide, You who fill the universe with Your glory. For You were never hidden from anyone, but it is we who always hide ourselves from You, not wanting to come to You. For where could You hide, who have no place of rest anywhere? Or for what reason, You who never turn away from any, nor any of them
