The sun in Capricorn in the month of January. When the sun is passing into Capricorn, if it should happen that thunder breaks, there will be a thick and smoky mist, so that the unripe fruits wither on the plants, and the wine will be of poor quality. If the mist persists until the rising of the Dog Star, the year will be plagued with sickness and lacking in grain. These things will happen especially in Macedonia, Thrace, Illyris and Upper India, Ariana and Gedrosia; for these are under Capricorn. Troubles and fears will come upon the females of living creatures, both rational and irrational, because Capricorn is a female sign. The sun in Aquarius in the month of February. When the sun is moving into Aquarius, if it should happen that there is thunder, for the Sauromatae, Oxiani, Sogdiani, Arabia Minor, Middle Azania, Ethiopia—for these lands are subject to Aquarius—it signifies an abundance of grain, but the fall of illustrious men appearing in the said lands, and not only of men but also of the males among other living creatures, because Aquarius is a male sign. The sun in Pisces in the month of March. When the sun is in Pisces, if by chance thunder should occur during the day, the harvest will be most abundant in produce, and the moist fruits will increase not least in our own Lydia, Cilicia, Pamphylia, Phazania, Nasamonitis, and Garamantica—for these lands are under Pisces. But the females of living creatures, from rational to irrational, will be downcast, because Pisces is a female sign. 24 The sun in Aries in the month of April. When the sun is rising into Aries, if it should happen that there is thunder but rain does not follow, in Britain, Galatia, Germania, of the Bastarnae, Coele-Syria, Judea, Idumea, there will be a fall of men and disturbances throughout cities and suffocations and droughts and barrenness of plants, and especially of the male ones, because Aries is a male sign. The sun in Taurus in the month of May. At this time, if it should happen that thunder rumbles, a lack of provisions must be expected, and not least the hard-shelled fruits will fail; for they are delicate and very soft compared to other fruits. None the less also cities by the sea will be handed over to enemies, in the Cyclades and the coastal regions of Asia Minor—for the sea belongs to Aphrodite—Cyprus, Media, and Persia itself, since the nations are also softer, because Taurus is a female sign. For this reason also the Bull is said to have fallen in love with Europa, because with the eastern point under Aries, and sometimes even before it, seeing new fruits, Europe under Taurus scarcely looks up. In the month of June. If it should happen that there is thunder while the sun is in Gemini, an abundance of both moist and dry fruits is to be hoped for, but the sudden fall of a powerful man. Hyrcania and the two Armenias, Amadiane, Marmarica, Lower Egypt will be unfortunate beyond the other lands, and especially concerning men; for Gemini is a masculine, anthropomorphic, and friendly sign. 25 In the month of July. That this month was formerly named Quintilis, but was changed to this designation in honor of Julius Caesar, has been discussed by us at length in the treatise On the Months. If, therefore, it should happen that there is thunder when the sun is in Cancer, there will be an abundance of wine, but dryness of the air. And dreadful and feverish diseases, and near to dangers, will fall especially upon the females in Bithynia and all of Phrygia, Colchis, Numidia, Carthage, and Africa. And sea-creatures will perish, especially the shellfish; for Cancer is a female sign and the house of the moon. In the month of August. This month was also anciently Sextilis; but it was renamed Augustus in the same way in memory of Augustus Caesar, as the history says. In which, thunder occurring while the sun is in Leo threatens extraordinary disturbance to affairs and destruction to the fruits from wild beasts in Italy, the Gauls, Sicily, Phoenicia,
