The cross is the abolition of idolatry, and the restoration of piety. The cross is the teacher of virginity, and the guardian of temperance. The cross is the security of the just and the repentance of sinners. The cross is the adornment of monks, and the glory of those who live venerable lives. The cross is the guardian of infants, and the temperance of the young, and the staff of the old. The cross is the inexhaustible wealth of the poor, the unerring guide of the wandering. The cross is rest in daily labors. The cross is the good order of nations and the tranquility of the whole world.
