of Thaddeus, who healed him without medicine and herbs, and not only him, but also Abdon the son of Abdos, who had gout; who also came and fell under his feet, and having received prayers through his hand was healed, and the same man healed many other of their fellow-citizens, doing wonderful and great things and preaching the 1.13.19 word of God. And after these things Abgar said: "You, Thaddeus, do these things with the power of God, and we ourselves were astonished. But in addition to these things I beseech you, tell me about the coming of Jesus, how it happened, and about his power, and 1.13.20 by what power he did these things of which I have heard." And Thaddeus said: "For now I will be silent, since I was sent to preach the word, but tomorrow summon for me all your citizens, and I will preach before them and sow in them the word of life, both concerning the coming of Jesus, how it happened, and concerning his mission, and for what reason he was sent by the Father, and concerning his power and his works and the mysteries he spoke in the world, and by what power he did these things, and concerning his new preaching, and concerning his lowliness and concerning his humility, and how he humbled himself and put aside and made small his divinity, and was crucified, and descended into Hades, and tore apart the barrier that had not been torn from eternity, and he raised the dead and descended alone, but ascended with a great crowd to his Father. 1.13.21 Therefore Abgar ordered that in the morning his citizens be gathered to hear the preaching of Thaddeus, and after this he commanded that gold and silver be given to him. But he did not accept it, saying, "If we have left our own things, how shall we take 1.13.22 the things of others?" These things were done in the three hundred and fortieth year; and let these things, translated word for word from the Syriac tongue not unprofitably, lie here for me in due course. 2.pin.t B These things the second book of the Ecclesiastical History also contains 2.pin.1 A Concerning the life of the apostles after the ascension of Christ.
