38.216 For if I sell for a price the things spoken to me by the Holy Spirit, what else do I do than sell the Holy Spirit for a price? 39.217 They ask, therefore; "in the resurrection," when all have risen, "whose wife will she be of them," thinking to throw him into confusion. 39.218.10 In addition to these things, some, reading the prophetic writings, are mistaken about the meaning of the scripture—for example from Isaiah: "my chosen shall not beget children for a curse," and in Deuteronomy in the blessings: "blessed be the fruit of your womb"; —supposing that these things will be "in the resurrection of the dead," not understanding the spiritual blessings. 39.219 For this reason the savior said to the Sadducees from among the Jews, who interpreted it bodily: "You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures." But on a higher level: in the beginning man was made, as it is written in Genesis, "in the image of God," but later, on account of his disobedience, he also took on a "dusty" image; 39.220 for just as the coin has the image of the king of the nations, so the one who does the works of the "ruler of the world" wears his image; which the savior advises to render and put away and to wear the image that was from the beginning in likeness to God. Following these things Paul also says: "As we have worn the image of the dusty one, so let us also wear 39.221 the image of the heavenly one." This, therefore, is what is meant by: "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And he asks of us, not because he has need of anything, but so that he might give his own things in return to us. For he who multiplied the mina tenfold and brought it to the lord who gave it, receives back with those many another one; for from the one who did not multiply the mina he orders it to be taken away and given to the one who has the ten minas. 39.222 "Take, therefore," he says to those standing by, "the mina from him," "and give it to the one who has the ten minas"; for God gives us good things in return with an addition.
