I arose, because the Lord helped me. And again when he says: They spoke with their lips, they shook their head, saying: Let him deliver himself. That all these things were done by the Jews to Christ, you can learn. For when he was crucified, they distorted their lips and shook their heads, saying: He who raised the dead, let him save himself. And when the prophetic spirit speaks, prophesying the things that will happen, it says thus: For out of Sion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem, and he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into sickles; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. And that this has happened, you can be persuaded. For from Jerusalem twelve men in number went out into the world, and these were unlettered, unable to speak, but by the power of God they announced to every race of men that they were sent by Christ to teach all the word of God; and we who formerly killed one another not only do not wage war against our enemies, but, so that we may not lie nor deceive our examiners, we gladly die confessing Christ. For it was possible for us to do in this matter what is said: The tongue has sworn, but the mind is unsworn. It is indeed a ridiculous thing that, while the soldiers who enlist and are enrolled by you embrace your confession before their own life and parents and country and all their kin, when you can provide them with nothing imperishable, we, who long for incorruption, should not endure all things in order to receive what we desire from him who is able to give it. But hear how it was also foretold concerning those who preached his teaching and announced his appearance, the aforementioned prophet and king having spoken thus through the prophetic spirit: Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge. There are no speeches nor words, whose voices are not heard. Their sound has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. In the sun he has set his tabernacle, and he, as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, will rejoice as a giant to run his course.
