The three elements, however, he leaves aside H. which he himself says belong to the three powers in syzygy, which are six, from which flowed the twenty-four elements, having been quadrupled by the principle of the ineffable Tetrad, he makes the same number for them, which things he says belong to the Unnameable. And that they are borne by the three powers, in the likeness of the invisible, of which elements the double letters among us are images of images, which, when counted together with the twenty-four elements by the power of the H. according to analogy, makes the number thirty. 1.8.7 Of this account, and of the economy H. of this analogy, he says that he has appeared as the fruit in the likeness of an image Hipp. the one who after six days went up the mountain as the fourth, and became the sixth, the one seized and having come down H. come down and seized in the week, being a significant Ogdoad, and having in himself the whole number of the elements, H. which the descent of the dove revealed, when he came to the baptism, which is ω and α. For her number is one and eight hundred. For the significant number, mixed with the twenty-four elements, completed the thirty-letter name. 1.8.8 And he has used as a servant the magnitude of the seven numbers, as the Silence of Marcus says, so that the fruit of the self-willed will might be revealed. This significant number, however Hipp. delet this num.; for the present, he says, understand the one formed upon the sign, the one as if divided or cut in two and remaining outside, who by his own power and prudence, through the projection from himself of this one of the seven powers, and according to Hipp. an imitation tamen an imitation of the hebdomadal power, animated the cosmos, and made a soul to be for all that is seen. He himself then H. loco himself l. and this one used this work, as having come into being by his own will; these things serve, being imitations of the un-imitable, the thought of the mother. And the first heaven utters the α, the one after it the ει, the third η, and the fourth and middle of the seven sounds forth the power of the ι, the fifth the ου, the sixth the υ, and the seventh H. and fourth from the part H. from the middle cries out the element ω, just as the Silence of Marcus, which talks much nonsense but says nothing true, affirms. Which powers together, he says, all intertwined with each other sound forth and glorify him by whom they were projected; and the glory of the sound H. sounding is sent up to the Fore-Father. And of this doxology he says the sound, being carried to the earth, became the moulder and begetter of things on the earth. 1.8.9 And he brings the proof from newborn infants, whose sound H. the soul, upon coming forth from the womb, cries out this sound of each one of these elements H. Therefore just as the seven, he says, powers glorify the Logos, so also the soul in infants, weeping and lamenting Marcus, glorifies him. And because of this David also said: Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have perfected praise; and again, The heavens declare the glory of God. And because of this, in H. whenever the soul is in pains and hardships, for its purification, it cries out the ω as a sign of praise, so that the soul above, recognizing what is akin to it, might send down a helper to it. 1.8.10 And concerning the whole, this name being of thirty letters, and
