He answered: I have often said that I have anathematized. He says to him, you anathematized the Typos? You anathematized the emperor. The servant of God answered: I did not anathematize the emperor, but a document
foreign to the orthodox and ecclesiastical faith. And he says to him: Where was it anathematized? By the synod of Rome, he answered, in the church of the Savior, and in
that of the Theotokos. Then the prefect says to him: Do you commune with the Church here, or do you not
commune? He answered, and said: I do not commune. 15Γ_104 He says to him: Why? He answered: Because it has cast out the synods. And he said: If it has cast out the synods, how are they mentioned in the diptychs? And he says: And what is the benefit of names, when the dogmas have been cast out? And can you, he said, show this? And he said: If I receive permission, and you command, I can show this very
easily. And when they were silent, the sakellarios says to him: Why do you love
the Romans, and hate the Greeks. The servant of God answered, and said: We have a command to hate
no one. I love the Romans, as fellow-believers; and the Greeks, as speakers of the same language. And again the sakellarios says to him: How many years old do you say you are? He answered? Seventy-five. And he says to him: How many years has your disciple been with you? He answered: Thirty-seven. Then a cleric cried out: The Lord has repaid you for what you did to the
blessed Pyrrhus. To whom he answered nothing at all. 14. 15Γ_106 And while so many things were being said in the secretum, none of the
patriarchs uttered anything. But when the discussion turned to the synod of Rome, Demosthenes cries out: The synod is not ratified, since the one who convened it was deposed.
And the servant of God says: He was not deposed, but he was exiled. What synodical and canonical action regarding what was done securely contains his deposition? But even if he had been canonically deposed, this does not create a prejudice against those things that were orthodoxly ratified according to the divine canons; with which also the writings of the holy Pope Theodore agree.
And hearing these things Troilus the patrician says: You do not know what you are saying, abba; what is done is done.
15. 0129 These are as many of the things moved and spoken as memory holds; and their
affair came to such a conclusion, releasing the holy old man from the secretum, into custody.
And on the next day, which was a Sunday, those of the Church, having held a council, persuaded the emperor to condemn them to this bitter and inhuman exile, separated from one another: the holy old man to Bizye, a fortress of Thrace; and his disciple to Perberis; where one cannot take a step outside.
