they proclaimed. But 96.1320 Valentinian proclaims his own brother emperor on the fifth day before the Kalends of March, after thirty-two days of his reign. Therefore, the bishops of the pure and orthodox faith, having met with Valentinian, requested that a synod be held. And he answered them that, “God has given me to rule the affairs of the world, and to you, those of the Churches; I therefore have nothing to do with this matter; so wherever it seems good to you, gather together and hold the synod.” Therefore he said these things while still holding an orthodox mind and not yet corrupted; so the bishops gathered in Lampsacus, which is a city of the Hellespont, they recapitulate the orthodox dogmas of the faith; and having set forth the faith of Lucian the martyr, they anathematized the “unlike,” having subscribed to the faith previously set forth by the holy Fathers in Nicaea, and they sent it to all the Churches; in Christ Jesus our Lord, to whom be the glory.

Οὐαλεντινιανῷ τοίνυν ἐντυχόντες οἱ ἐπίσκοποι τῆς καθαρᾶς καὶ ὀρθῆς πίστεως, ᾐτήσαντο γενέσθαι σύνοδον. Καὶ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς, ὅτι Ἐμοὶ μὲν ὁ Θεὸς ἔδωκεν ἄρχειν τῶν τοῦ κόσμου πραγμάτων, ὑμῖν δὲ τῶν Ἐκκλησιῶν· ἐγὼ τοίνυν εἰς τοῦτο τὸ πρᾶγμα οὐδὲν ἔχω· ὅπου οὖν δοκεῖ ὑμῖν, συνελθόντες τὴν σύνοδον ποιήσατε. Ταῦτα οὖν ἔτι ὀρθὸν ἔχων τὸ φρόνημα καὶ μήπω διαφθαρὲν ἔφη· συναχθέντες οὖν οἱ ἐπίσκοποι ἐν Λαμψάκῳ, πόλις δέ ἐστι τοῦ Ἑλλησπόντου, ἀνακεφαλαιοῦνται τὰ τῆς πίστεως ὀρθὰ δόγματα· καὶ παραθέντες τὴν πίστιν Λουκιανοῦ τοῦ μάρτυρος, ἀνεθεμάτισαν μὲν τὸ ἀνόμοιον, ὑπογράψαντες τῇ πίστει τῇ προεκτεθείσῃ ὑπὸ τῶν ἁγίων Πατέρων τῶν ἐν Νικαίᾳ, καὶ εἰς πάσας τὰς Ἐκκλησίας διεπέμψαντο· ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν, ᾧ ἡ δόξα.
