when he has brought it to an end, makes him perform the dance to him. Do this also, beloved, caring for the children of your enemies, both living and dead; of the living, that in this way you may reconcile their fathers; and of the departed by caring for their children, so that you may draw much goodwill from God, and bind on countless crowns, and receive countless prayers from all, not only from those who are well treated, but also from those who look on. This will stand by you on that day, and your enemies who have been well-treated will be great advocates for you at the time of the judgment, and you will dissolve many of your sins, and you will demand the reward. Even if you have committed countless transgressions, by putting forward that prayer which says, Forgive your enemies, and your Father will forgive you your trespasses, with great boldness you will receive the forgiveness of all your sins, and here too you will live with good hope, and you will have all people well-disposed towards you. For those who see that you so love your enemies and their children, how will they not choose to become friends and associates, and to do and suffer all things for you? When therefore you enjoy so much goodwill from God, and so have all people praying with you for all good things, what grief will you feel, than whom will you not live a more blessed life? Let us not admire these things here only, but also let us keep them when we go out, and going about, and each searching out his own enemies, let us reconcile them to ourselves, and make them genuine friends. And if it is necessary to make an apology, and to ask forgiveness from them, let us not refuse, even if we ourselves have been wronged. So our reward is greater, so our confidence is more abundant, so we will certainly attain the kingdom of heaven, by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, be glory, might, honor, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. καταλύσαντος, εἰς ἐκεῖνον αὐτὸν τελεῖν ποιεῖ τὸν χορόν. Τοῦτο καὶ σὺ ποίησον, ἀγαπητὲ, καὶ ζώντων καὶ τελευτώντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν τοὺς παῖδας θεραπεύων· ζώντων μὲν, ἵνα τῷ τρόπῳ τούτῳ καταλλάξῃς αὐτῶν τοὺς πατέρας· ἀπελθόντων δὲ τοὺς παῖδας θεραπεύων, ἵνα παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ πολλὴν ἐπισπάσῃ τὴν εὔνοιαν, καὶ μυρίους ἀναδήσῃ στεφάνους, καὶ μυρίας δέξῃ παρὰ πάντων εὐχὰς, οὐχὶ τῶν εὖ πασχόντων μόνον, ἀλλὰ καὶ τῶν ὁρώντων. Τοῦτό σοι κατ' ἐκείνην προστήσεται τὴν ἡμέραν, καὶ μεγάλοι συνήγοροί σου εἰ εὐεργετηθέντες ἐχθροὶ κατὰ τὸν καιρὸν τῆς κρίσεως ἔσονται, καὶ πολλὰ διαλύσῃ τῶν ἁμαρτημάτων, καὶ ἀπαιτήσεις τὸν μισθόν. Κἂν μυρία πεπλημμεληκὼς ᾖς, τὴν εὐχὴν ἐκείνην προτεινόμενος τὴν λέγουσαν, Ἄφετε τοῖς ἐχθροῖς ὑμῶν, καὶ ὁ Πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἀφήσει ὑμῖν τὰ παραπτώματα ὑμῶν, μετὰ πολλῆς τῆς παῤῥησίας τὴν ἄφεσιν λήψῃ τῶν ἡμαρτημένων ἁπάντων, καὶ ἐνταῦθα δὲ μετὰ χρηστῆς βιώσῃ τῆς ἐλπίδος, καὶ πάντας ἕξεις εὐνοϊκῶς πρὸς σὲ διακειμένους. Οἱ γὰρ ὁρῶντες ὅτι τοὺς ἐχθροὺς καὶ τοὺς ἐκείνων παῖδας οὕτω φιλεῖς, πῶς οὐχ αἱρήσονται φίλοι γενέσθαι καὶ ἐπιτήδειοι, καὶ πάνθ' ὑπὲρ σοῦ καὶ ποιῆσαι καὶ παθεῖν; Ὅταν οὖν τοσαύτης μὲν παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τῆς εὐνοίας ἀπολαύῃς, οὕτω δὲ πάντας ἔχῃς τἀγαθά σοι συνευχομένους ἅπαντα, τίνος αἰσθήσῃ λυπηροῦ, τίνων δ' οὐ βιώσεις μακαριώτερον βίον; Ταῦτα μὴ ἐνταῦθα θαυμάζωμεν μόνον, ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐξελθόντες φυλάττωμεν, καὶ περιελθόντες, καὶ διερευνησάμενοι τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἕκαστος τοὺς ἑαυτοῦ, καταλλάξωμεν ἡμῖν ἑαυτοῖς, καὶ φίλους ποιήσωμεν γνησίους. Κἂν ἀπολογήσασθαι δέῃ, καὶ συγγνώμην αἰτῆσαι παρ' ἐκείνων, μὴ παραιτώμεθα, κἂν αὐτοὶ ὦμεν ἠδικημένοι. Οὕτω μείζων ἡμῖν ὁ μισθὸς, οὕτω πλείων ἡ παῤῥησία, οὕτω τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν ἐπιτευξόμεθα πάντως, χάριτι καὶ φιλανθρωπίᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, μεθ' οὗ τῷ Πατρὶ ἅμα τῷ ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι δόξα, κράτος, τιμὴ νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ, καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων.
