For these are colonists of the Sidonians, from Cadmus son of Agenor. And the Chaldeans are colonists of the Tyrians, and any others who migrated to Greece. The nations of Japheth are scattered from Media as far as the western Ocean, facing north, as follows: Medes, Albanians, Garganoi, Erraioi, Armenians, Amazons, Kolloi, Kzenoi, Dennaginoi, Cappadocians, Paphlagonians, Tabiennoi, Chalybes, Sarmatians, Thracians, Mossonoi, Bastranoi, Sauromatae, Illyrians, Maiotai, 55 Scythians, Tauri, Macedonians, Hellenes, Istrians, Daunians, Ouennoi, Iapyges, Calabrians, Oppikoi, Latins and Romans, Gauls who are also Celts, Lugistinoi, Celtiberians, Iberians, Gauls, Acuitanoi, Illyrians, Basates, Kyrtanoi, Lusitanians, Vaccaei, Brittanic peoples, and those dwelling in the islands. Of these, those who know letters are these: Iberians, Latins who are also Romans, Spaniards, Hellenes, Medes, Armenians. And their borders in length are from Media to the western Ocean to the north; and in breadth from the Tanais river to Mastousia which is toward the sun. Here end the borders of Japheth as far as the Britannic islands, which face north. And he has the islands Britannia, Sicily, Euboea, Rhodes, Chios, Lesbos, Cythera, Zacynthus, Cephallenia, Ithaca and the Cyclades, and a certain part of Asia called Ionia; and the Tigris river, separating Media and Babylonia. In these, therefore, are the borders of Japheth fulfilled, because the scripture has said: “May God enlarge Japheth, being very great.” For he received all of Europe and no small part of greater Asia; wherefore it is also said “and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem.” And not only this, but also in an anagogical manner, that almost the entire portion of Japheth has been added by baptism and by faith in Christ our true God, which are the tents of Shem, since from him came both Abraham and Isaac and Jacob the patriarchs, from whom also the other genealogies are clearly traced down to Christ the leader. 56 But of Ham, very many nations until now are in apostasy in both the Indies and Ethiopias and Mauritanias, in which the Arabias and Idumeas act insolently against God and his saints, being subjected to the curse of Ham and Canaan. Wherefore scripture also declared Ham a servant-boy to Shem and Japheth, signifying him also through Canaan his son. Thus therefore, the whole inhabited world having been divided by Noah by divine command, as has been shown before, in the 2572nd year of the world, and the Ϡλʹ of the life of the righteous Noah, 204 years before the dispersion at the building of the tower, to his three sons, in the same way also in the confusion, being scattered, the 72 tribes and tongues took possession by lot, even if after these things at certain times some were resettled elsewhere by wars and captivities and by using greed and tyrannies against each other irrationally; concerning which things, one who reads first the divinely-inspired scriptures, and then also the Judaic and Hellenic and Egyptian or Chaldean histories, will know, even if it is not necessary in all things to follow the writings of the unbelievers, and especially in those things in which concerning

Οὕτως οὖν ὑπὸ τοῦ Νῶε τῆς ὅλης οἰκουμένης διαμερισθείσης θείῳ προστάγματι, ὡς προδεδήλωται, τῷ βφοβʹ ἔτει τοῦ κόσμου, Ϡλʹ δὲ τῆς τοῦ δικαίου Νῶε ζωῆς πρὸ σδʹ ἐτῶν τῆς κατὰ τὴν πυργοποιίαν διασπορᾶς, τοῖς τρισὶν αὐτοῦ υἱοῖς, κατὰ τὸν αὐτὸν τρόπον καὶ ἐν τῇ συγχύσει δια σπαρὲν κατεκληρώσαντο αἱ οβʹ φυλαί τε καὶ γλῶσσαι, εἰ καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα κατά τινας καιροὺς ἀπῳκίσθησαν ἄλλοι ἀλλαχοῦ πολέμοις καὶ αἰχμαλω σίαις καὶ ταῖς κατ' ἀλλήλων πλεονεξίαις καὶ τυραννίσιν ἀλόγως χρησά μενοι· περὶ ὧν ἐντυγχάνων τις ταῖς θεοπνεύστοις πρῶτον γραφαῖς, ἔπειτα δὲ καὶ ταῖς Ἰουδαϊκαῖς καὶ Ἑλληνικαῖς καὶ Αἰγυπτιακαῖς ἢ Χαλδαϊκαῖς ἱστορίαις εἴσεται, εἰ καὶ μὴ ἐν πᾶσι χρὴ ταῖς τῶν ἀλλοπίστων συγγραφαῖς ἕπεσθαι, μάλιστα δὲ ἐν οἷς περὶ
