Again, "the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice." And again, "a sacrifice to God is a broken spirit." 1.10.35 All these things, therefore, that were prophesied from of old, are fulfilled in the present time for all the nations through the evangelical teaching of our Savior, truth bearing witness to the prophetic voice, by which God, after rejecting the sacrifices according to Moses, prophesies what was to be in our own time, saying: "For from the rising of the sun even to its setting my name has been glorified among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure sacrifice." 1.10.36 We therefore offer to the God over all "a sacrifice of praise"; we offer the divine and reverend and sacred victim; we offer in a new way according to the new covenant "the pure sacrifice." And a sacrifice to God is said to be a broken spirit; "a broken and humbled heart, O God, you will not despise." 1.10.37 And indeed we also burn the prophetic incense, offering to him in every place the fragrant fruit of all-virtuous theology, sending it up through prayers to him. This another prophet also teaches, who said: "Let my prayer be set forth as incense before you." 1.10.38 Therefore we both sacrifice and burn incense; at one time celebrating the memory of the great sacrifice according to the mysteries delivered by him, and offering to God thanksgiving for our salvation through pious hymns and prayers, and at another time consecrating ourselves wholly to him, and being dedicated both in body and soul to his high priest, the Word himself. 1.10.39 Wherefore we practice to keep the body pure and undefiled from all shameful acts for him, and we offer to him the mind purified from every passion and from every stain of wickedness, and we reverence him with unwavering reasonings and an unfeigned disposition and with doctrines of truth. For we have been taught that these things are more pleasing to him than a multitude of sacrifices performed with blood and smoke and fat. 2.Pin.t These things are in the second book of the evangelical demonstration concerning our savior. 2.Pin.1 1.
